I too have this and later Subsidy Rolls for most of Wenlock.

However can you look up the Shrewsbury Burgess Roll which according to the snippet on Google Books contains on page 56 a reference to a pipemaker?

Can you let me know the full entry please?

thanks,
Peter

I have those to 1678.The early ones don't give additional info. such as son of...

I would suspect that the Bridgnorth Easthopes are linked to the Benthall / Madeley ones.

Jenett Yestop paid 1525 subsidy in Longville & Lushcott believed widow of Edward of Eaton d 1509 (HP 508/128)
John Estop paid 1525 subsidy in Ketley & Malinslee
Richard Estope paid 1524 subsidy in Madeley
William Estop paid 1524 subsidy in Stanton Lacy

Please could you check if there are any TITTENSOR or similar entries on the Burgess lists.

There were a number of Tittensor cabinet makers around the 1840s near St Marys and later in Wyle Cop in Shrewsbury having moved from Newcastle under Lyme.

Thanks for your help,

Paul

Hi John,
My forebear, William Newell, was admitted as a hereditary Burgess in 1721 - is that correct?  Also, could you tell me the names of any other Newel/Newell/Newill/Newall etc. Burgesses; I'm told they were descendants of Richard Newell of Worthen, in the time of Henry VIII.  Thank you!
Best regards, Melissa

Darn, so it's just an incorrect rumour!  Thank you so much for checking for me - that's extremely kind of you.  Hope you had a good holiday.
