Hi everyone
I know I have been here a lot lately and hope I’m not being too greedy! Please tell me if I am, I won’t be offended!
I have these two pictures that I hope you can restore. The first one is really bland with absolutely no character …I was wondering if a bit of colour would soften them up?
The second one is just old and faded ..I would love him to look a bit more perky!
Thank you all in advance for your time, I so appreciate it! :)

Here's a colour of your second pic, Deb.
-
GS ...................... STUNNING!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o
I really didn't think the old boy could look so good! :D
-
Hi Deb - I don't think he was terribly old when that photo was taken - unless he wore particularly well! Am I allowed to say he has a sensual mouth? Well, I've said it...... Surprising the things you pick up when working on these pics.
-
GS
I didn't realise how young he was ... the old photo makes him look older! I think he has a baby face ???
I wonder when the photo was taken? ...he was born in 1842.
-
Would be interesting if someone could date it - at which point I might well be proved wrong! But as you say, he has quite a baby face and there don't appear to be any lines.
-
Shall we call in China ...I don't know 'the daters' very well ;D
How old does he look to you? ... I'm thinking 25ish
-
I've PMed China ...her light off off at the moment ...hopefully she comes in soon!
deb :)
-
I was thinking of him as a young man - 25ish - when I was working on the photo but I suppose it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to be 35ish, bearing in mind that his hair seems to be receding a bit.
-
Mind you, having said that, the jacket looks a bit 'Three Men in a Boat' - which was published in 1889. (I didn't know that date, I just checked ;D)
-
I think the receding hair runs in the family having seen a portrait of his grandfather.
John 1842 , is my 3 x cousin 4 times removed....I, however, do not have a receding hair line ...well not yet anyway! :D
-
You are most fortunate to have such a good selection of photographs of your family.
-
GS .... I live vicariously through my cousin in Canada who has all the photos ...I, unfortunately, have nothing except the little bit of their blood running through me ;D ;D
he's a great cousin though and is willing to share ...with that I am VERY, VERY fortunate!
Thanks for all you have done ...John 1842 had 3 children ...he has a photo of them as well ...can I post it (when I receive it) for restoration here ...
deb :)
-
I'm sure I and the other restorers will be queuing to get our hands on it! ;D
-
Do you think I should post it here or a new post? I hate to appear to be 'greedy' :-\
I wonder what they would have thought about colour pictures? Imagine them coming back and seeing Facebook/TV?movies and all the other things that have been invented since then. ;D ;D
-
Put it in a new thread, Deb....some people don't revisit old ones.
The first photo has a 1920s look to it, maybe end of the war, second one I have no idea...you don't have the back do you? Or could you ask for a scan of the back?
Cheers,
China
