Hi im researching the gudge family of Cobham surrey but also from Dorset .my g grandad Joseph gudge married rose alderton .jo was born abt 1903 he has a brother William John g b abt 1892 .on joeseph marriage certificate the witness is wj g .his father is John gudge who married Jane coates .im trying to find out who johns parents were .on a census record 1911 I think it stated birth place as Dorset .and I have come across a william John gudge and another john gudge who could be possible fathers but im not sure who is the dad any help would be much appreciated please :-D

From the census record that you have already found, can you tell us how old Joseph's father was? He can then possibly be tracked back through the previous census.
Joseph's birth was registered in Sept qtr 1902 Epsom RD 2a 37.

Hiya yes I think that is possibly him.looks like I will have to buy John and Jane marriage certificate so I know for sure who johns dad is .if thatis them below theymust of moved back and forth between Dorset and Cobham if rosewina was born Cobham .i wonder what Elizabeth maiden name was ?thanks for the info everyone :-D

Yes Puddletown is in Dorset.
The tree owner could well be in Australia there are a lot of Australian people on there.

If you are looking for Dorset records, have you tried www.opcdorset.org ? Lots of parish registers available plus various other records, depending on the parish (Wills, Militia Lists etc.).

John Gudge and Jane Coates are my great grandparents through their daughter Lily. I have the Gudge line on Ancestry going back to Giles Gudge in 1765. You should be able to find my line there.
