I have an interesting and apparently very old postcard sent from Brighton in England and addressed to Mrs F Treloar,Kooringa,Burra, Sth Australia,it's from some one named Annie..I have learned that Frank Treloar was prominent in Burra prior to 1930-ish when he moved to Croydon but I would like to know more about his wife and perhaps find out who Annie was too...she appears to be travelling around England..a holiday perhaps? Seeing as the Treloars left Burra in 1930 and the post card was sent to them there it follows that the card(whose post mark is faded) was sent before 1930 making it at least 80 years old but likely much more.
Annie's penmanship is messy and scrawling but she writes that she is in Brighton for a few days only and so was sending a few cards.Could she have worked at Kooringa with the Treloar family?
the tone of the message suggests that she was not close to Mrs Treloar and she does not use her christian name in addressing her but perhaps I assume too much?!
Would love to know more about Annie and Mrs Treloar and I would happily send this card to descendants of either party if they would like to have it.
Merry Christmas everyone :)

Won't help with your request for info about Annie however I can recall a friend of my grandmother's always addressing her as Mrs ***** but my grandmother addressed her friend by her given name. My grandmother was the elder of the two. This was in the 1940's.
There is also a Brighton in South Australia.

Thanks folks....I am still hopeful about learning more of Annie but Candos' remarks do make sense given the era so she may well have been a friend of Mrs Treloar..Im pretty sure that it was Brighton England that the card was sent from though as a) it is a picture of Brighton's pebbley beach sea side complete with British flag..and b) Most tellingly..the legible part of the post mark states it's Brighton U.K......any and all suggestions and thoughts are gratefully received. :)

Here is a link to the Burra History Group.
http://www.burrahistory.info/
On the left hand side of the page, you will see a tab - 'Frank Treloar Transcriptions'.
Perhaps an email to them may be worthwhile? :)
Cheers, Chris.

After exploring the website a bit further, I found a lengthy obituary for Frank Treloar.
His written works were published in 2011 and are now available for purchase.
Cheers, Chris.

Thanks Chris...I had found that website and have the obituary transcript..he was rather active in his community however his wife is some what less well documented..Iam going to contact the Burra History group to see what light they might shed on Sarah and hopefully on Annie too.
I may be able to donate the postcard to them or descendants of the Treloar family if they want it.
Your thoughts were much appreciated.
Cheers

I am a descendant of Francis & Sarah Treloar, parents of Frank and Sarah that you speak of. I have a Treloar history book written by Pamela McCallum, which documents quite a bit on Frank and Sarah. They also had a child additional to the ones posted below called Emmie Maude Treloar, married George Hartwig. Sarah lived with Emmie Hartwig at Croydon, South Australia until her death.
Sarah was a rigid and rather hard woman, straight laced and precise.
There is no mention of an Annie - although Emmie had two sons and fostered 5 children.

Hi Benelle
I would be very happy to pass this postcard on to you if you are interested in family memorabilia.
It is addressed to Mrs F Treloar. Kooringa, Burra, near Adelaide, South Australia.
It reads as follows: (as far as my de-ciphering can ascertain :))
'I am in Brighton for a few days, so am writing a few cards, Kindest regards Annie Port "
Well I think the surname looks like Port anyway...then there are two words that I cannot make out..something like the hotel address perhaps ...
I'd be pleased to mail this little bit of family history to you if would you like to have it.
Cheers

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could post some pictures of Frank Treloar when he was older, maybe in his 60's. My husband woke one night with a man named Frank sitting on a bed next to him at Bimbowrie Station and my curiosity has got the better of me. Thanks
-
Sorry Lynne I have passed the postcard on to this persons descendants...they may be able to supply a picture...what a bizarre experience for your husband,...would be interested to see how this pans out. Best of luck

Hello. This is a long shot in the dark as it's been a long time since anyone has posted on this thread.
My name is Marc Hoffrichter, I am the son of one of the Treloars adopted children. My mother has long since passed and she would never speak of her childhood only to say she was adopted.
Several things have just recently fallen into place and after some basic searching they have lead me here.
I am reaching out to anyone on this thread that can help me piece together my mothers side of the family.
The attachment is a photo of whom my mother always referred to as her mum. The young girl, I am unsure.

Hi Sarah. I keep getting errors or 'not allowed' messages when trying to use chat or PM.
Trying to get hold of benelle8. Hopefully she still responds to here.
