Title: Miller - Ballybay
Post by: 2011E on Wednesday 12 October 11 18:26 BST (UK)
Looking for information on William Miller. This is what has been found so far: From Monaghan, born around 1815, parents could be James and Rosannah Miller, he was a Protestant, went from Dublin, Ireland to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia in 1842, married Mary Dumbrell in 1847, had a son William Miller in 1851, and died in Tasmania, Australia in 1895.

Any ideas about where to look to find more about him?
I'd like to know which records from that period I should I look into.

William Miller (born around 1812), son of James and Rosannah Miller from Ballybay. I am asking for any help in finding information about them. For instance, Rosannah's name at birth.

The dates are well before the start of civil registration in Ireland (which is probably why your earlier post had no replies). Once you know what denomination the family were you can check to see what church records might survive but the answer is likely to be few if any. Not all church records are online. If, and it's a big if, you do find a baptismal record for William it's probable that the mother's maiden name is not listed and even likely that her first name might not be listed at all making it difficult to confirm you've the correct record.

At first you said "parents could be James and Rosannah Miller" and now "son of James and Rosannah Miller from Ballybay." Does this mean that you've been able to find more information in the past year?
