Where were you? You must have been too busy working, gardening, eating, sleeping or something, they started in November. :D
I must add to my 'to do' list .... what did these brothers do in Canada ? George eventually married my Great Aunt and became a homesteader in Saskatchewan, but no idea about John James.
That is so sad, Graham. Have you found out what was the cause of their deaths?
.......I have a Smith line. ::)
.......I have a Smith line. ::)
Just the one? ::)
Always out-spoken and feisty, she ended her days at the age of 93, out-living her brothers and sister by 15 years .... 'Poor little Milly' as she was known, was made of stern stuff ! I miss her still ....
I also thought that we should mention any really important days in history so that we can see what was going on on the days our ancestors were born, married or died. Adds a little extra colour, don't you think?
You're getting closer to my Jaffrays, Graham. Mine were in Belhelvie, Aberdeenshire but my first contact with them is a century earlier than your James and I know little about them other than the father and a few siblings of my 5 x great grandmother, Margaret, born in 1751.Not very close, though. As far back as we've gone, my Jaffray line has been based in Bannockburn, St Ninian's, Chartershall and Airth; I can't find a link to the Aberdeenshire line. Emigration to Ontario, Manitoba, Tansmania and NZ (and as far as Dunbar in Scotland!).
his will made in 1842 mentions “all those my several freehold cottages or dwelling houses with the gardens, lands and appurtenances in Crowton and Frodsham and all other my real estate whatsoever and wheresoever and also all my household goods and furniture, plate, linen and china, live and dead stock and all other my personal estate and effects” yet when he died 6 years later his assets were only valued at £100!The value quoted seems to me to be the personal estate and omits the real estate
.... and Westmorland is itself no more ....
I've just discovered the 'calendar' on my FH programme only picks out birthdaysI don't know which FH program you have. I have Legacy and the only way I've found to get births, baptisms, marriages, deaths and burials is to go to Search, then click on Search and Replace. From there I click on Dates - Births, then put in the date 21 Jan for instance and start. If it finds anything I just make a note of it and then press skip and it goes to the next item. Then I repeat the exercise for baptisms, deaths, burials and marriages (which for some reason are further down on the search list). I'm sure there must be a quicker way of doing it - any Legacy experts out there?

I wonder how they feel about their GG grandson opening the cupboard and revealing all these skeletons.
Wasn't Julia Sawalha on WDYTYA .... and her mother was a Dubock .... silk weaver ancestry.
Rebecca Ashplant she is out on a limb of my tree
Alice Catlow was born today in 1731 in Ashton Under Lyne.
Her father was Jonathan Catlow Curate and Schoolmaster.

Stonechat my husband's g.aunt married a William Catlow in 1910. As she lived in Denton which is very close to Ashton under Lyne, I wonder if there was a connection to your Catlows? I've not bothered to trace William's family.
I have a second subsidiary Catlow branch.
Alice Catlow's granddaughter Eliza Cock, born in Denton, married a Samuel Catlow in 1836 in Manchester Cathedral (much used by Denton people)
The 7 children were all born in Haughton near Denton.
Is it not something of a national disgrace that Queen Mary's birthplace still lies roofless, when you think of the vast sums spent on palaces elsewhere and the massive revenue raked off from North Sea Oil.
No monarch, from James VI to the present queen, would have sat on a throne but for the fact of this birth in this place.
I was born at 10.10am
everywhere was covered in snow
It's my birthday today :D

One I find it hard to put on
Dad was born 27th Jan 1922 in Egham, third child of a baker.
He was in the RAF in the war as a wireless operator, but was invalided out after a couple of years after an infection.
HE worked his whole career for BAT as a buyer then in marketing.
However his passion was in gardening. He won many prizes at horticultural shows.
On retiring, he took on three allotments. His knowledge as well as his produce was shared freely.
He had a gift of enthusing others.
He also worked for the residents association at this time and social events were a great success.
As old age progress, the allotments were given up and eventually had a gardener to help him. The last gardener said it was a privilege to work for someone who loved his garden so much.
As a family man he was a strong leader. His strength showed in his last year, he remained mentally strong through cancer and the infections and remained realistic about his chances.
Dad died on 18th December 2013.
Mum is still around so I have left out his name.
They were married for over 65 years.
RIP Dad
That's a special anniversary! :Dshe was 19yrs old
Your gran looks incredibly young, doesn't she.
On Sunday 29th January 1769, Marion Tweedie, the first child and eldest daughter of my 4xG grandparents Robert Tweedie and Margaret Somerville was born in Carnwarth, Lanarkshire. Neither myself nor my good friend and fellow RootsChatter, Meg, who shares this line and to whom I am indebted for much of my Tweedie information, can find out much about her mother. Marion married a farmer, John Trevit, predeceased him and lies with him and two of their children in Carnwarth.
