Title: Need direction
Post by: cardiff on Tuesday 08 January 13 11:17 GMT (UK)
Hi
I am looking for an Edith Robinson born 1913 Sheffield England belive to have emigrated to Canada, sadly do not know if she married before she went. There is a possibility her sister lilian Robinson b 1907 shieffield  followed her(Lilian was infact still married her married name was LLoyd) but believe after leaving her husband and daughter in South Wales for London she reverted to her maiden name. Have looked at the ship reg but no Edith Robinson.
Any suggestions would be great ;)
cheers cardiff

My first stop here was www.freebmd.org.uk

It gives the only Edith Robinson registered in Sheffield in 1913 was registered 1st quarter, mother's maiden name Colley.
For 1907 there are two Edith Robinsons registered in the first quarter.

Working backwards I find a likely Sheffield marriage, Emily Colley to Edward Robinson 3rd quarter 1905.

You'd need certificates to be sure, of course....

And I think you'll find the family in the 1911 census. Reporting of the details of 1911 is restricted on RootsChat, but try looking for a Edward born about 1883 and living in Eccleshall

Hi
Thank you both for your replies I don't think telling you what I know about the family on the 1911 census is a problem It would be if I was asking you for that info!.
Regarding the family I have the Colley connection  and have Lilans birth certificate.
I was hoping to find a connection with Canada or someone who has a connection to either sister.
Lilian married then left south wales and went to work in London, we know her sister  Edith went to Canada and a letter that was sent  by Lilian in the early 1940's mentioned she may emigrate to Canada where her sister lived.
I have looked at ship passengers but there are a few that could match but cannot be sure!

cheers cardiff :)

Reply 7 Marriage of Frank Pashley and Dora Cockayne ?

Reply 8 Birth of Frank Wilson Pashley - Mother Dora Cochrayne ?

Reply 9 Death of Dora Pashley - Mother Ellen Cooley and sister Emily Cooley ?

There is a marriage of Dora Cooley in December 1909 to Herbert Wragg 9c 270 - the next census shows Dora's father William (widowed) and Ernest (brother) living with Dora and Herbert  ?

Can't find a marriage of a Dora Wragg to a Cochrayne - Hmmmmm - another question ?

Hi
Dora's mothers maiden name was Cockrayne!
William Colley =m= Ellen Cockayne 4th qtr 1882 Wakefield vol 9c page 122
(1891 census 3841/126/16)
Looking at the info you have given me and the info I have Dora was born Colley 1893
she married Herbert william Wragg and had a son william in in 1911 I believe  baby william died 4th qtr 1913, Dora married under her mothers maiden name cannot confirm husbands death Wragg!
But married same qtr as childs death.
Its funny because her sister Lilian had a child aged 2yrs and left her with her father and tshe was never seen again bit of a pattern there!
made this short cooking tea.
need to find lilian now did she also go to canada, never divorced but could have remarried?
cheers cardiff ;)

Haven't come across Lillian under Robinson or Lloyd yet  :'(
Reply 4 gave a link to some information on Edith, husband and children - if you use Canada 411, the second son on that list is still alive and living in Trenton. Ontario.

Hi
Lilian Lloyd nee;Robinson Left South Wales around 1932-33 before she was married she worked at Selfridges in London believe to be an elevator operator, family believe she returned to the bright light of London and may have taken up another position at the store. About 15 years later a letter was sent from Lilian to her husband to ask if he had remarried! Lilian also said she was thinking of immigrating to canada to be with her sister. Her husbands mother who had cared for her daughter threw the letter in the fire! Lilian's daughter is still alive and in her 80's and it is her daughter that asked if I would look into what happened to her grandmother she never knew.
They always believe she used her maiden name of Robinson. I did request info on Selfridge Stores employee info someone suggested I contact to the N Achives has the info is in private hands.
Thank you for your imput so far ;)
cheers cardiff :)
