Hi
A long shot!!!
I am trying to find a birth for an Eileen Mary Fitz Simon (Fitz-Simon, Fitzsimon etc) born on the 4th November 1894 or thereabouts. Her father is Herbert Barry Fitz Simon - mother unknown
Many thanks
-
Someone posted a question and some information about this family on another board. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CAN-SASKATCHEWAN/2000-03/0953222051
Unfortunately this was quite some time ago but if you can still contact this person, she may be able to help you.

Hi there.
If you put just Fitzsimon into the search engine at this link and click on 'contains' to the right, you should get the birth info for both Arthur and Eileen. Some of the spelling appears to be rather creative but the father is clearly Herbert Barry.

Polarbear is correct when she indicates creative spelling. Eileen listed as Eliies.
I took a look at the Rootsweb site indicated by Linda and this looks like a good place to start.
I checked 1901,1906 and 1911 Canadian census but did not find the family unless again someone got creative with the spelling.
There is a history book for Wapella called Mingling Memories: A History of Wapella And District.
I have a contact in Saskatchewan will give her a try and see if the family is mentioned. This from info mentioned in the Rootsweb site posted by Linda.

There is an Annie Fitzsimon buried in the Wapella cemetery. This would appear to fit with the information in the above link (Annie being Eileen's mother, who died about the time of the birth of one of her children) except that her year of birth is given as "infant" and her year of death is "unknown." ???

You awesome, awesome people. ;D
Thank you so much for all of this wonderful information. You have helped break down a brick wall that has been in existence forever!
Very kind regards

Hi
Is there any way of finding the marriage between Anna and Herbert?
-
Did Herbert marry in Saskatchewan? Marriages have not been done yet on the Saskatchewan Vital
Statistic Index. If you knew the exact date you could send for the marriage record. Just a note the cost for the genealogical copy is $50.00 Canadian.
I am working on some more info that I found for you just waiting for my contacts to get back to me. Soon as I hear will contact you.

Hi
I'm working on the theory that they may have married in Alberta.
The Frewing family were living in the Territories, Alberta by the 1891 census and Herbert was also lodging in the same province and district. It has been suggested that he may have lived with the family at some time. I can't see the actual household census records unfortunately. But my guess is that they married between 1891 and 1894 in either Alberta or Saskatchewan
Gosh! $50-00 is an extraordinary amount to expect for a record!! That's just over $60.00 NZ
I look forward to seeing what else you may have

You can view the 1891 Census page for the Frewings in MacLeod, Alberta here:
http://data2.collectionscanada.gc.ca/1891/pdf/30953_148227-00723.pdf
As you can see, Herbert Fitzsimons was living with them and he and Annie had not yet married.

Hi Linda

W. F. Frewing, plasterer, and H. B. Fitzsimon, butcher, appear in Henderson's Manitoba and Northwest Territories Gazetteer and Directory 1894 in Wapella:
http://peel.library.ualberta.ca/bibliography/848.11/91.html?qid=peelbib|Wapella|(peelnum:000848.11)|score
Neither one, however, appears in the 1897 directory:

Hi again.
This should be Arthur in the 1901 Canada census living with a Robert Munn and family. Click on split screen at the top to see the original image which provides additional info.
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/View.jsp?id=111553&highlight=23&desc=1901+Census+of+Canada+page+containing+Robert+Munn
And in 1911 as the adopted son of Robert Munn. Split screen will again bring up the image for you.
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/View.jsp?id=142864&highlight=50&desc=1911+Census+of+Canada+page+containing+Arthur+B+Munn
For some reason I can't bring up Arthur in the 1906 census through the automated genealogy website but if you click on links to the right side of his name on the transcription page you should retrieve it that way. He is called Arthur Munn at this point.

You can view the complete death registration for Arthur www.bcarchives.bc.ca/BC_Our.../BC_Vital_Rrd_Collect.aspx
Click on Vital Events Search(new) on right hand column
I just keyed in Fitzsimon with no dates and it was the first one...Click on Vital Stat Images at the bottom of the page.
Found on Rootsweb Free BMD marriage for Eileen M Fitz-simon marriage to John Graham Sept 1917 ...did not find any children but will check again.

And thanks also to all those wonderful and useful links
Many, many thanks ;D

Hello Robyn
You are most welcome glad to be able to help.
I must say PB information on the census gives one reason for thought. I do not see a death for Annie on the Saskatchewan Vital Stat Indexes . Have sent Robyn a death for Herbert if it is the correct one...he died in Ont. He certainly seemed to get around.
Waiting for a bit more info from my sources....hopefully will fill in a few more blanks.

Hi
Hopefully, this link will take you to the actual death registration for Arthur Barry Fitz-Simon.

You can trace some BMD events related to the Frewing family at this link. Just put Frewing in the search engine without first names. You should be able to sort out who's who with the info from the censuses. (This is the same website susano posted Arthur's death from)

One of the current indexing projects on FamilySearch are Roman Catholic records in Saskatchewan fro 1846-1934 which might lead you to a baptismal record.

A possible connection to Ottawa for Herbert ...
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/passenger/001045-119.02-e.php?sisn_id_nbr=5531&page_sequence_nbr=1&interval=20&page_id_nbr=57008&&&&&&&PHPSESSID=j6oj9dg3kq5dgbkp8v1sm65ji4
This passenger list indicates he has lived in Wapella for 27 years but his current destination is Ottawa and he appears to be a Civil Servant. Arrival was 28 Oct 1910 from Liverpool. On the same ticket is a Robert Venning who also appears to be a Civil Servant. Perhaps they were on a business trip.
I wonder if he might have been able to contact his daughter?
If you have access to Ancestry through your local public library or other means you can look for Eileen in the 1911 UK census. She appears to be in the free index transcribed as Gileen but Anc has her as Eileen. Birth year is given as 1895. We aren't permitted to do lookups for that census here.

As Lilybell mentioned above, Ancestry has an Ontario death record for a Herbert B Fitzsimons: Died age 55, 27 July 1920, in Ottawa. Occupation civil servant. The place and the occupation would certainly fit with the information on the passenger list found by polarbear.
-
A bit more information on Herbert the land description indicates it was east of Whitewood Saskatchewan. Have not been able to come up with any information on the family living
in Saskatchewan from history books. There is a cemetery listing at Wapella Saskatchewan for a Annie Fitzsimons records say infant and no dates. I believe this is incorrect but cemetery records are in poor shape. I think it could be Herbert's wife unless there was another child we don't know about? ???.
From a further search on A***y there is a tree with Arthur marrying a Evelyn Muriel Russell born 1903 Portage La Prairie Manitoba, they married 1937 in Manitoba ....her parents Bertha Oatway and John Russell married 05/08/1896.

Again, many thanks
Yes I had spotted Eileen in the 1911 census attending a Convent school in London.
The family had believed that she had been born in England so seeing Canada as her place of birth prompted the original query I put on rootschat - which, as you can see, has unearthed some wonderful and surprising results
-
Hi all
I just wanted to share with you all that contact has been made with a living relation and a family reunion is being planned for 2015.
Thank you so very much for all your efforts in this ;D
-
Hi,
Glad to hear of your good news.
Like a happy ending... nice you have made contact with family. Have a nice reunion.
Lilybell :) :) :) :)

If this discussion is still live, I have a good deal of info on Eileen Mary, her marriage and family., thanks to research I am doing on the Graham Family. Happy to supply.
-
Hi Eileen
I put this post up on behalf of a Graham descendant in New Zealand who was having difficulty with this part of the family and had no idea of the brother's existence until this Rootschat conversation. You may already know of the New Zealand branch. Happy to check if he's interested in making contact ;)
-
That would be John Michael Richard Graham, yes? I'm writing a history of Carnethic House in Cornwall, UK, and Tim Graham in Australia sent me the family trees drawn up by their Great Grandmother Josephine. I believe the two of them have been in touch about it. Happy to forward them to him via email if he wants to get in touch.
-
Hi there,
I'm not sure when you posted your question as I have just registered with Roots Chat. Eileen's mother Annie Maria Frewing was my husband's great aunt. If you still need any more information about her, please contact me. I would love to know why you are interested.
