Title: Callear/Callier/Gallear/Gallier - are you related?
Post by: SiCallear on Monday 21 January 13 17:48 GMT (UK)
I am a Callear (based in Staffordshire) and I've currently  traced my family tree back to the early 1800s.

I am finding that the surname appears to change as I look to trace my ancestory back further and/or as I look to explore some of their other decendents (aka not my direct branch).

Do you recognise Callear in your tree (Staffordshire/Shropshire area) or maybe one of the many variants? Have you too made this connection?

Si

Hiya Si

I am not related but someone I know has the surname Calleia which originates from Scicly so maybe the family originated from that region and might be worth thinking of as you look further back

I am currently interested in Callears in and around the Stoke-on-Trent area (19th centuary onwards).

Are you out there?

Sorry - no Levi connected to my tree (yet) but do you have a few more details (dob, family, etc)? I recognise the name and may have info on him.

Hi,

I do not have a Levi (yet) but I know I had ancestors living in the Tipton/Dudley area around 1850. I believe this is 10 miles south(ish) of Bloxwich. Prior to this area my branch are found in the Wellington/Dawley area.

My great-great-great-grandad was born in Tipton in ~1838 and is later found in the Stoke area. I have managed to link a lot of the Stoke based callear's to my free.

What do you hope to do with Levi? Are you looking for just his data or to go further back on the Callear line?

Thanks

Hi Si,
I think that i have also Levi's Mother and Father from the 1901 census

Levi Callear    age 58 , coal miner,  Born Bloxwich.
          Ellen Callear,   age 64 ,                    "          "
       William Callear,   age 18 ,                    "          "
    Benjamin Callear,   age 16,                     "          "

living at 18 Alfred st. Walsall part of all Saints Bloxwich.

Levi's son married the widow of one of my ancestors.
Levi's grandson was born at roughly the same time and on the same street as my
father and obviously, in their younger years , were friends.

I was contacted a few years ago by someone called Callear, who it turned out lives in the
same village as me.  He hoped that my Mother could give him some information about the
Callears as he seemed to have great difficulty in tracing the Callear family tree.
I don't think that my Mother could help him.

So it really is an attempt to help him and also record Our family's connection to
         the Callear's.

So it would be of great interest to follow up the Callears, although I must admit I
haven't spent a lot of time pursuing it. But occasionally these leads can throw up
further family information as well as photo's etc.

      Regards Tomkin

Hi Sam,

Sorry to hear of your sad loss.

The Levi I'm talking about was a friend of my fathers. My father was born

in Denaby, West Yorkshire in 1900 and Levi was a few doors away. If my memory

serves me right, I think that Levi's father had the same name. I've got the census

          records somewhere.

Hi Sam,

Sorry - only four years late with a reply!! Not had a lot of pare time for the family tree and the bit I've had has been focused on a different part of the family.

Yorkshire is of interest. I have Callears in that area. Where/when was your Grandad there? Do you know any more about his family?
