Title: Forssie, Parish of Halkirk
Post by: cupcake on Tuesday 22 January 13 13:55 GMT (UK)

Can anyone help me get any information on Jane McKay.

All I have is her marriage to George C Moffat on the 2 October 1906 at Forssie, Parish of Halkirk. Her parents were Hugh McKay (shepherd) and Roseina McKay (nee McLean). I know she worked in Dumfries as a cook and domestic Servant, where I assume she met George.

Regards,

How old was she at marriage, cupcake?

The 1911 census would also help you confirm her birth place.

This entry might fit for Jane from 1891 - everyone showing as born in Kildonan, Sutherlandshire:

Rosina MacKay 39
Jane MacKay 15 b. Kildonan, Sutherlandshire
Thomas J MacKay 13
John MacKay 11
Georgina MacKay 8

Address: Shepherd's House, Kirkton/Farr, Sutherland

Jane's marriage to George on 1903 rather than 1906?

From some online trees, her details are given as:

b. 7 Nov 1875 in Kildonan
m. 2 Oct 1903 in Thurso
d. 2 Jan 1968 in Vancouver

The family's 1881 entry for further background:

Hugh Mackay 31, shepherd
Rosina Mackay 29
Jane Mackay 5
Thomas J Mackay 3
John Mackay 1
Mary McLean 16, sister in law b. Clyne

Address: Fihinory Sheps House, Kirkton Farr

MonicaL,

Firstly, my mistake, Jane was married in 1903 and not 1906.

Jane McKay was 25 when she married. Where would I look for the the 1911 census?

Jane McKay joined her husband in Vancouver, she and the children arriving at Quebec on the 'Hesperian' on 6 Nov 1910, not long after the birth of last Scottish born son Robert:

Jeannie McK Moffat 35(3?)
Rosie 4
Janet 2
Robert 10 months (I think).

Jeannie shows as joining her husband, a plumber by trade (I have connected this now with your Moffats in English Street  :)).

In 1911 Vancouver, Canada:

George Moffet 32 plumber
Jennie Moffet 32
Rose Moffet 7
Jannet Moffet 5
Robert Moffet 2
William Moffet 30, brother, plumber

MonicaL,

I do apologize  :o. I hadn't realised or simply forgotten I had posted way back in 2006.

Was that your post from 2006? No need to apologize  :) It was all a long time ago! Always come at things with new eyes after a period of not looking at something.

monicaL,

Can you make out this place. It is where Rosina McKay died. Might help me find her husband Hugh McKay's death entry, as there are a few on SP.

monicaL,

Since my last post I have downloaded from SP a death entry for a Hugh McKay 1930 in Kiltearn, as his his wife Rosina died in the District of Kiltearn.

Unfortunately, I couldn't make out a single word on the entry :'(. Have contacted Scotlands People.

This is Newton of Novar (emphasis on the second syllable), Evanton. Novar is a large estate in Kiltearn parish.
Skoosh.
