Title: Quick Question about Voyage Times
Post by: Carole in Dallas on Tuesday 22 January 13 23:56 GMT (UK)
In 1849 a family traveled on the SS Hartley from Liverpool to New Orleans...arrived on 28 Apr 1849.  How many days did this family spend traveling across the waters.  Within three months, two of their four children had died.

Thanks EVER so much!

According to the shipping column of the Liverpool Mercury newspaper (6 March 1849), the Hartley sailed from Liverpool on 4 March.

There's an interesting report here which states 5 March ...

So exciting that we found William Knox diary...this is her direct line.  DO you know where a fuller diary is available.

Glad to help.  :)

William Knox's journals seem to be held in manuscript (MS 9541) in the Church History Library at Salt Lake.

Robert Louis Stevenson's "An Amateur Emigrant", an account of his journey from the Clyde to the US on an emigrant ship, is available online and well worth a read.

Skoosh.
