Hi list
I have family living at Colliers Arms in the 1861 census and their address is given as Colliers Arms, Caeshyneyw, Bettws.
I am struggling to find where / what Caeshyneyw refers to -- is it a street name, a hamlet or something completely different ??
Checking addresses either side of the census page doesn't help as this location only seems to appear against this entry - Piece: 4133 Folio: 56 Page: 32 Registration District: Llandilofawr.
Any ideas please?
Cheers

I can't see any reference to Caeshyneyw on the image. The address is just Colliers Arms
-
my apologies -- it's displayed as such, in FindMyPast not Ancestry. I should have specified the source :-(

Hi Lynda,
What you are reading is a mistranscription of 'Caeshyncyn', which means 'Jenkin's field'. In the Ancestry view the name appears on the page (32) before the Collier's Arms, and is probably the name of the road where the tavern stood.
Pinot :)

ahhh.... that clears that one up for me :-) Thanks so much Pinot ...
