Title: Albert Pollard died Alberta 1981
Post by: mentmore on Wednesday 06 March 13 23:23 GMT (UK)

By chance I came across on Find a Grave a grave for Albert Pollard 1903-1981 and wife Dorothy Patricia Pollard 1920-1979. They are buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

Are there any obituaries in local newspapers please.

Many thanks
Carol

I wish I could be more help, but the best I can offer up is an e-mail to the Lethbridge Library. They may be able to do a look-up for you.

Hi Carol:

I haven't been able to find an obituary but did find the actual death dates if that helps -

Albert Pollard - July 25, 1981

Dorothy Patricia Pollard - December 7, 1979

Hi

Unfortunately, Alberta does not have many records online.

I found a website for the Lethbridge Historial Centre which will do look-ups of obituaries for a fee.  Here is the link:

Good luck.

Hi, RedMystc
Thank you for the info. regarding Lethbridge Library, I shall be in touch with them.

Hello sami
Thank you for the dates of death for Albert and Dorothy Patricia Pollard.

Hi Susan
Thank you also for the link to Lethbridge Historical Centre, I'll be in touch with them.

I think Albert Pollard is my relative, I just need a clue to say that he was born in England, or his marriage certificate to give fathers name. His birth year of 1903 fits nicely, just one more clue and another piece of the jigsaw complete.

Best wishes to all, and thanks again
Carol

No online records for marriages in Alberta.  No central registration of marriages in Canada - it's a provincial responsibility.  The above link will explain the cost and procedures for a marriage search and who qualifies to apply for this.  In Canada not all records are accessible by everyone.

Your best route would be to try for an obituary for either Albert or Dorothy as you don't know if this couple even married in Alberta.  Do you know when Albert came to Canada?  The cemetery might also be able to tell you if their records include the name of parents.

Hello RedMystic, sami, susano, and cosmac

You all very kindly replied to my request for information on Albert Pollard and wife Dorothy, both buried at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge, Alberta.
I emailed the cemetery and within two hours I received a reply with a map showing the burial plots and two obituaries from newspapers, plus an offer of a photo of the memorial stone as soon as the snow clears.
Thank you all for your help
Carol

Hello Cosmac

In the obit. for Albert Pollard, it says that he was born in England and came to Canada as a young man all correct, and his birth year is correct.
He served in the Canadian Air Force during WW11, I don't know anything about that.
There was a son born to Albert and wife Dorothy. According to the obit. Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Lethbridge so poss a marriage there.

So for the time being, at least, I'm saying, yes, Albert 'is mine'

Thank you RedMystic, I just need to find the marriage cert of Albert and Dorothy, sometime, to be 100% sure. I am 99.9% sure, I have waited years to find out about Albert after he left England in 1920, so what's another few years?

Best wishes

Hi Carol:

The release of the 1921 Census of Canada is not too far away (in the custody of Library and Archives Canada June 1, 2013). Hopefully you will be able to find Albert. If Dorothy Patricia ? was a long time resident of Lethbridge, Alta. you may also be able to get a lead on her identity.

Hello sami
That's good news regarding the Canadian 1921 census, unfortunately, it's won't give much in regards to Albert as he went to Canada 1920.
But I have found, don't ask how, I spend hours trying to find something on Albert and Dorothy Patricia, and again I came across in Lethbridge Herald Thursday 31 July 1947 an engagement announcement for Dorothy Patricia Payne to Mr A Pollard. The wedding will take place early in September.
SO now I need a wedding annoucement for early Sept 1947, hoping it will mention Alberts parents and that he was born in England.

Thanks for your interest
Carol

Didn't realize that the Lethbridge Herald was on ancestry for some early years.  It used to be free online and then they made it a paysite and subsequently they must have accepted an offer from ancestry for their files as it is no longer available on a separate site.

There is a wedding announcement for Sept 6, 1947 between Albert Pollard and Dorothy Payne, d/o Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Payne.  Unfortunately no parental information or place of birth for Albert.  They married at St. Augustin's church and the wedding attire is described as well as their plan to honeymoon and on their return reside in Lethbridge.

Did you find the birth announcement for a son born to mr. and Mrs. A. Pollard (Nee Dorothy Payne) for Dec 1949 at Galt Hospital.  Son R.E. Pollard.  If you didn't pick up the name I will pm it to you .
