Title: John Smith Robertson
Post by: sfp on Thursday 07 March 13 12:01 GMT (UK)
Searching for a marriage for John Smith Robertson b 1844 Edinburgh and Emily C (maiden name unknown) b 1849 Channel Islands - specific island unknown.   They were married about 1881, their first child was born 1882 in Edinburgh, where the family remained.   No marriage found in Scotland or England, so maybe some kind soul might be able to find something in one of the islands?

Fingers crossed

Scottish birth certificates usually give date and place of parents' marriage.

Hi

You can rule out Jersey. I can find no Robertson marriages 1871 to 1882.

Yes, Scottish certificates are more detailed than English ones. The 1882 birth certificate should contain the mother's maiden name and the date and place of the parents' marriage. You can see and download images of Scottish BMDs at ScotlandsPeople, the Scottish government's pay to view web site.
