Would any one be able to look up for me the birth registration for Lilian P C Parker ,District Henley vol 3a page 542 in the Oct/Nov/Dec quarter?
The two churches where she may have been christened were demolished in 1866 (Britwell Salome and Britwell Prior).A kind soul on Roots Chat has suggested that I need to look in Henley prefixed SO and the one I need is SOO3.
I really am scrambling in the dark here as I am new to this side of things.
I am trying to find out if her mother and father are on any documents. How would I go about buying a birth certificate?
Thank you in advance.I am researching on behalf of an elderly aunt who is 102! I would love to be able to solve her puzzle.

Hi miggs 191
You can apply to the General Register Office at Southport www.gro.gov.uk for a copy of the birth certificate which will cost £9.25. The year is 1866.
I'm sorry but the local register office will most probably be unwilling to look at their registers and tell you who her parents were. Members of the public are not allowed access to the birth registers held at register offices.
Have you found her with her parents on the census?
If she married, her father's name would be on the marriage certificate.

Lilian PARKER (mistranscribed as PACKER) appears on the 1871 census:
Name:
Lilian Packer
Age:
4
Estimated Birth Year:
abt 1867
Relation:
Granddaughter
Where born:
Watlington, Oxfordshire, England
Civil parish:
Britwell Priory
County/Island:
Oxfordshire
Registration district:
Henley
Sub-registration district:
Watlington
Household Members:
Name
Age
Samuel Percey (Retired Sea Captain, born Devises, Wilts.)
52
Louisa Percey (wife)
49
Ann Parker (daughter)
22
Emily Percey
14
Alice Percey
13
Lilian Packer (grand-daughter)
4
Mahlda Imson (servant)
35
From the above, it would appear that Lilian is Ann's daughter. However, at the moment I can find no record of an Ann PERCEY marrying a PARKER!

If its any help, the following baptism took place at Watlington on 12 Dec 1866:
Lilian Clare Perry Parker daughter of William James & Mary Sarah Sissons, engineer, The Folly, privately.
This is from an Oxfordshire FHS CD.

Further to my previous posting, this is the family on the 1861 census (living in Hackney, Middx.):
John Perry - Head (Superintendent Engineer, Machinery)
40
Louisa Perry (wife)
36
Mary S Perry (daughter)
12
Emily Perry (daughter)
5
Alice P Perry (daughter)
3
Matilda Ineson (unmarried visitor)
25
Years/places of birth match with those given in the 1871 census (though I wonder why John changed his name?).
From the above, it would seem that the Lilian PARKER shown as grand-daughter on the 1871 census is, in fact, the daughter of Mary S. PERRY and her husband William James PARKER (as per the Watlington baptism record in the previous posting).
But ... then who is the Ann PARKER, daughter of Samuel and Louisa, who appears on the 1871 census???
There is a possible marriage in Dudley (Mar 1866) - William PARKER with a possible bride, Mary PERRY.

A quick recheck of the 1861 and 1871 census images throws up another conundrum. On the 1871 census, Ann PARKER (nee PERCEY/PERRY?) is recorded as being born in c1849 in Devizes, Wiltshire. On the 1861 census, Mary S. PERRY is also recorded as born the same year and place. Could they be the same people?
Hoping that the 1851 census may throw some light on the above, I found the following:
John PERRY (married) lodging in St. Clement Danes, Middlesex, and working in the grocery trade.
Mary S. PERRY (aged 2), a neice living with William and Sarah GRACE in Devizes, Wiltshire.
Louisa PERRY - no record found.
Ann PERRY - no record found (which would make sense if Mary and Ann were the same person!)

Found on FreeBMD:
Births Sep 1848
PERRY Mary Sarah Sissons
Devizes, Wiltshire
No birth record in Devizes for an Ann PERRY.

THANK YOU :) :) :)
Most of the info so kindly researched above we have. BUT the missing link is the Baptism and partner of Mary Sarah Sissons Perry.
My Aunt of 102 is over the moon. She has spent at least fifty years researching our complicated family and every thing is documented back to the 1600s. She could not find reference to her grandmother's daughter Lilian Clare Perry. We knew she existed because she is mentioned in Wills. My great grandmother went on to marry a Banks of Potterne Wilts and had six sons. The daughter was never mentioned....so sad.
Where can I get the Oxf CD? We know it is her because of the name Sissons. Various records to do with inheritance can be accessed at The National Archives and here she says she has no children. We suspect that her Father John Perry of Devizes could have been controlling her as it may have involved a large inheritance hence the name Clare for the child. It is not a christian name but a surname of the Coroner of Devizes around 1800.
Again many many thanks. We are ready to crack open the champagne!

You can purchase Oxfordshire parish register transcription CDs direct from the Oxfordshire FHS at www.ofhs.org.uk., although it is extremely unlikely that there will be any more information than that given by Jill above.

Awaiting the birth certificate for the above.Cost an arm and a leg! Didn't know where to send to so used this site.
Can I e mail the office in Southport or do I have to write?
I can't be spending the fifty quid this one has cost! But thought as my Aunt is so old speed was an essential component!

What site did you use ? As a previous poster has said, certs are available direct from the General Register Office for £9.25
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro
Incidentally, having seen your previous post, I have looked at Britwell Salome and Newington parish register transcription (courtesy of OFHS) - there are no PARKERS at all.

Thank you Harry.
I have spent so much time jumping from one site to another got my sites mixed up!
Just under fifty pounds for a paper copy and anan express sevice e mail from a well known genealogy company!
Begins with A and ends with stry!
Can I just email to the link you gave?
Until the last couple of months my Aunt did all this ...on foot...by train...coach....rail.I don't know how she managed but it is her passion and now aged 102 she has handed it over to me!
I have to say it is fascinating and I am hooked.
Thank you for your help and support.
I am still awaiting the express e mail from An stry!
Next time I will use your suggestion.
How long do they take to reply? Do you know roughly?

Miggs191,
From memory, you need to create an account and then enter the details of the event that you want the certificate for. Delivery times vary, last time I ordered, it took 2 weeks.

I have partly solved one problem only to find another but I guess that goes with genealogy!
I have the birth cert. for Lilian Perry Clare Parker DOB 9/11/1866 registered 26/11/1866 where her father is listed as James William Parker .Her mother (my great grandmother) is listed as Mary Sarah Sissons Parker formerly Perry. Problem is I have searched for a marriage and there does not appear to be one listed under either of their names. The only one that occurs is her marriage 10 years later to my great grandfather John Biggs Banks. We have lots of wills and associated papers where she swears to be a spinster /not married etc. Is she lying?
As I asked in a previous posting where we now know the census info was not accurate, could she have been lying on her daughter's birth cert.?
Can any kind soul find a marriage?
In the 1871 census a James W Parker Engineer says he was born in Putney Surrey but I can not link any of this.
I have tried searching Devizes Wilts.
Putney Surrey
Berks./Oxf. (as boundaries changed) and can find nothing.
I am sure some one has a better brain than mine and can point me in a new direction.
Thank you! :-\

Hi miggs,
I'm not sure if you have already seen this, but freebmd.org.uk is showing a marriage;
Mar 1/4 1866 Dudley - William Parker to Mary Perry Vol.6c page.73
There are only two males & two females shown. To see just go to this site;
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
and click on the "blue" page numbers to bring up all who married in that location and quarter.
All I just did was to put in the surnames and searched "all counties". It could be that he preferred
to use his "middle" names
This Dudley district spans the boundaries of Staffs & Worcestershire so may not be the marriage your looking for. But could J.W. Parker, being an engineer be working away from home, so to speak?

Thank you Alan.I'll try this.
The search has being going on since about 1958 but not by me of course. It was easier for the previous generation to me to search back to 1600 than to sort this bit out!
Thanks again.

Discovered a James w parker engineer born in Putney Surrey approx 1848.This matches the birth cert but on the 1871 census he is a visitor.Of course this could link with him being away from home.
but non of this solve the fact that Mary Sarah Sissons stated on legal documents that she was a spinster!

Think I may have found missing Lilian Perry (Parker) death
Could some one please tell me if I have got this right.
I trawled through Anc....try marriages for any link with the correct combination of names.
Found a Lilian Clara Perry marrying an Albert Edward Deadman in 1902 (Reading vol2c p775)
Looked to see where they were on the 1911 census.
Albert and Lilian (correct ages) and her birth listed as Watlington living in Hambledon Hants.
Thought this odd as its so far away but his place of birth is Slough. He is an Ag.Lab.
Checked for her death and it is given as Lilian C Deadman aged 71 Petersfield vol2c p 238.
Am I correct in thinking that if I apply for the death cert. It might give me more info?
Also I,ve never done this before so do I use the site the people above suggest for birth certs. Is it the same place.
Thank you everyone for your help and patience.

Hi all, just to say many many thanks for all your help and support. The elderly relative had died and I have inherited boxfuls of genealogy. I still haven't completely resolved the Lilian Perry saga but have had reams of notes and copies of legal documents to transcribe and am finding snippets of info about their strange lives. I don't think the research will ever end because a knew piece has just appeared on The National Archives involving the uncles of Lilian.
I wish to sy a public thank you to all of those who have given me help. The quest continues !
Many ,many thanks to all. Miggs191
