Hi
SP has the death of a Margaret Midgel Howat, in Troqueer in 1862. No age or other names
Not found anything in the Troqueer MIs but they might not go that far.

Its strange how I can't get a death for George Howat as he is down as being the father in James Corrie Howat's birth 1n 1858 but deceased ???. This family are quite hard to find !!!!

Hi Rosie
I think I'm looking at the correct cert and I don't know how you think he was dead bhy 1858. Here's a snip of James's birth record. George was alive and the informant.
Looks as if George died between April 1858 and 1861 census. I'll have another look with a later death date.

If you put in his names, 1859 and Troqueer, it will come up.
The best way of searching on SP is to give as little iinfo as possible. I found him by using wild cards in the surname and no first name and no age, just 1858-1861 and Kirkcudbrightshire and he popped up in Troqueer.

I've just read your e-mail. I see your confusion as the handwriting is not of the best. It would say deceased in the 'Father' column. You were reading the 'Informant' column - an informant would never be deceased.

Hi Folks,
I'm not sure if the Howat's I'm searching for are the same family family as yours but here is my info:
Homer Howat married a Jane Kilty/Kiltie
Their son James Howat married a Jessie Elizabeth Paterson in 1904 Kirkcudbright
Jane Howat nee Kiltie death: 1891 Kirkcudbright
1891 Census they have 6 children James, William, Mary A, another dau? John & Margaret
1901 a son is added: Homer Howat age 1 so his mother Jane died just after his birth
James Howat married Jessie Elizabeth Paterson in 1904 Kirkcudbright, James is listed as being 23 and Jessie as 21 They are not on the 1911 census, but there is a James Howat on the Ellis Island passenger list age 28 and married can't confirm if this is him, no info for Jessie?
John is on the 1911 Census in Kilwinning single and a gardener, can't find a marriage for him.
Cheers
