Title: Clucas Family
Post by: snice1985 on Saturday 16 March 13 23:38 GMT (UK)
Hi, i am trying to trace my 3x great grandmother Annie Murray (nee) Clucas. I can trace her after her marriage but i'm having real trouble tracing her before that. On the census records that i have found her on it says that she was born on the Isle of Man possibly Ramsey about 1829. Her marriage certificate lists her father as a William Clucas who was a Surgeon.

any help greatly appreciated.

Did she marry in the IOM?

If not - where did she marry and what was her husbands christian name

This is from Family Search

3x great grandmother Annie Murray

Marriage entry shows her as Ann not Annie

1861 as Anne - just shows IOM

1871 as Annie - born Ramsey

Sight of the baptismal entry above will show what her fathers occ was

In 1851 - there is an Ann Clucas aged 20 b IOM working as a servant in Liverpool

Anc tree lists Ann as the daughter of William Clucas and Mary Vaust. Giving William Clucas 1801 Patrick IOM. There is a William Clucas on the 1841/51/61 census of IOM - occupation Surgeon. William is married to Julia.
1841 Maughold, Isle of Man William and Julia with 2 sons Walter and William.
1851 Waterloo road, Maughold, Isle of Man - still married to Julia, with Walter, William and Louise.
1861 Albert Road, Maughold, Isle of Man - widowed - Walter and Louise still at home.
No sign of Ann on any of those census though.
Some interesting information connected to one of those trees which might be worth a read.
If you do not have access to ancestry, then you should be able to view the tree entries on the sister site - http://www.mundia.com/gb/

Those addresses (1841-1861) are actually in Ramsey!

Parish of Maughold, town of Ramsey.
Albert Road and Waterloo Road are still there. ;D

Civil Registration began in 1878 (births & Deaths) and 1884 (for compulsory marriage registration, some before that), so will need to look at Parish Registers.

Might I suggest that you read this article? It mentions William Clucas (b1800), a doctor at Ramsey! ;D
