Title: Quebec Newspaper Help
Post by: loopylu on Monday 18 March 13 00:26 GMT (UK)
Hi.

I'm hoping someone can advise me. I am looking for an obituary in Quebec November/December 2000

Problem i have is i don't have a marraige name only her birth details.

I have been told she died in a car crash 22nd November 2000

so i need to go through all the newspaper obituaries or try to find the possible story surrounding her death.

I know i can't get her marraige name due to the 100 yr closure just scrapped through with her birth.

I have had help from canadians in chat and they have been brilliant but this will be a very time consuming operation.

she was Honour Millicent Florence (marraige unknown) Nee Ender b 21st December 1932 Quebec Died 22nd November 2000 Quebec. i know she married and had 1 daughter from the marraige but then she lived with someone and had many more children exact number unknown.

i am looking for the quebec news archives that will give me the November to December 2000 obituaries or news story if any exist.

Many Thanks

Loopylu

Are you talking about Quebec City or the entire province of Quebec.

Not sure if this might help identify the area she lived in - There was a Canada Voters List entry 1963  for Honor Ender - Occupation:- Inspector - Residing Verdun
(Bannantyne Suite) 5440 Apt 14.

married women in Quebec before 1981 could use their husbands surname but there legal name remained their maiden name. After 1981, the married name was the name used on all legal documents including hospital records/deaths/etc. You may find her death/obituary under Ender or her other name or combination of both.
Very confusing but an example
My mother in law, born 1930, used her husbands surname for everyday matters and correspondence, etc. All hospital records/nursing home records/ pension records from the province of Quebec/death registration were in her maiden name. All pension records from the federal government were in her married surname. The name on her headstone is her married surname.

Also, registration of bmd's is not the same in Quebec as in other provinces as they were mostly parish records until I think the late 1960's (I would have to look up the exact date). If you know the parish (church) where she married, you may be able to contact the church for the information.
There is a family tree on Mundia that lists her but doesn't give any details. Is this your tree or someone else that is also interested in this family.
On the tree she is Honor Millicent Florence Ender, b. 1932 d. 2000

From the tree at Mundia
mother
Honor Vera Rose Lewery
b. 1904, England
immigrated 1923
married - 1930 Montreal, Quebec
died - 1997, Vancouver, BC

Father
Herbert Richard Ender
b. 1902, Montreal, Quebec
d. 1952, Montreal, Quebec

So from this info I would think Montreal would be the place to search but can you confirm that.

Also, you could search for an obituary for the mother in Vancouver through the library and see if the name the daughter used was mentioned. Also, this obituary could give you the names of other living family members if they remained in contact with her.

Montreal Gazette obits only go back to Jan 2001...trying elsewhere.

Verdun
(Bannantyne Suite) 5440 Apt 14.

Sandra

"Suite" just means "following" or "continued"....the listing for Bannantyne Ave is being continued from the previous page :)

So the address is 5440 Bannantyne Ave, Verdun. Verdun is a separate city from Montreal but close enough to be considered a suburb in all practicality :)

If she was born in 1932 she probably didn't marry until about 1952, and that's too late for the Drouin index. :P

Cheers,
China

There is an entry in Drouin for her baptism, the name is spelled Honor, and the parents are correct in Valeriec's post.

the pictures & names, please send me a note & I will contact you, I live in Bc Canada,
Honor Ender was the daughter of Honor Rose Lewery, who immigrated from England.
