Title: 1908 birth in Ontario
Post by: rogerb on Friday 22 March 13 16:42 GMT (UK)
I am not very experienced at digging around Canadian records, so I was wondering if somebody with a bit more experience could help me.  The 1911 census shows a 3 year old Thomas A Brown living with parents Charles and Bessie.  However, I can't seem to find a matching birth record.  I have found birth records on familysearch for a couple of twin brothers born in 1912, but nothing for the 1st child.  Has anyone got any ideas?

The address for the Browns at the birth of Charles Arthur was 42 Myrtle Street which was also the address of the Browns (Charles Martin Brown and Bessie Jane Nicholson) recorded on the 1912 birth of William Wallace and Victor Branwell.

Mick - thanks for that - seems like that record is just not on familysearch.  Also, I've had a good look at the census form and I think it definitely says Thomas.  But I assume that the census enumerator has done all the writing, so I suppose it must just be written down wrongly.

Cheers - Roger

Cosmac - have you made a typo there?  The twin of William Wallace Brown is John Frederick Brown according to familysearch.

There is a Bramwell Victor Brown in the family, but he would be the children's uncle.

I am going to post this just in case you don't have it as it is related to the overall family.

It would appear that he married between Oct 15, 1917 and January 2, 1918.

Also, thought I would mention that the 1921 census is due to be released sometime after June this year. It will be some time before it is transcribed and available but something to look for in the future.

Are Harriet, Charles Martin, Letitia and Bramwell children of Victor and ?

What is the relationship to Arthur W. Brown?

Arthur W Brown and Clare Tims are the parents of the 4 children.  The UK census of 1891 and 1901 confirm this, plus they are all on the passenger list of the Southwark arriving at Montreal on 1st July 1905.

Just for overall information. There isn't a site in Canada similar to freeBMD in England. All vital stats are by province and privacy laws vary with each province. We tend to rely on newspaper archives to search for information. The family was in Toronto so a good place to search is a paid site through the Toronto Star called pages of the past. I haven't used it but you may want to take a look and see if it may be of help to you.
