Title: Syncing Family Tree Maker 2008
Post by: amielou86 on Saturday 23 March 13 12:07 GMT (UK)
Morning all,

I use the 2008 version on Family Tree Maker.  I've uploaded my tree to ancestry but between adding facts to my online tree and my laptop programme, i now need to sync my trees.  I don't want to lose the data I've saved to the online version.

Ancestry.com Help tells you how to sync the 2012 version of the programme but cant find anything on the 2008 version.

Anyone walk me through it?

Ta,

Amie

Hello Amie,

I don't use FTM but I have just had a look at Ancestry's help on the subject of synchronizing:

The key sentence seems to be:

Family Tree Maker 2012 has a new feature that allows you to sync the information between your Family Tree Maker 2012 files and your Ancestry.com account.
I have not seen anything about FTM2008 but a link to FTM by Ancestry says the same thing:

Family Tree Maker 2012 offers some exciting new features that users have been asking for. TreeSync lets you link your desktop tree to an online version so you can access and update your tree on the go.

cheers falcybe
ps: so you will have to continue making changes to your tree on your computer and uploading new gedcoms to Ancestry. Or you can obtain FTM2012

Hello Amie

falcybe has given you the good oil - FTM2012 is the only version with the TreeSync feature. If you have made changes to your online tree then you have no choice but to download the tree as a GEDCOM file, then import that file into FTM2008.

The only other option is to purchase FTM2012, which would make life much easier for you. As a bonus the 2012 version has many more features (apart from TreeSync ) than earlier versions.
