There looks to have been two children from the marriage:
Alexander 1869 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQQX-T5R
Lachlan 1871 https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/VQQX-ZLQ

MonicaL, that's the correct family, with this information I was able to find the mother Ann & Alexander in Govan, the Census for 1871 just records Mrs Kennedy - no wonder I could not trace them.
I will now attempt to trace the d record for Lachlan Kennedy the husband b 14th Jan 1837 on Islay, he must have died mid 1870.
Thanks for you help on this enquiry

Sorry, didn't realise you didn't have 1871.
Did Ann show as a widow on the 1871 census? The 1871 census was on the 2 April. Son Lachlan was born on 1 May 1871, either/or should confirm Ann's marital status to help you narrow down death dates for father Lachlan.

Monica, Correct the Census record shows Mrs (Ann) Kennedy as widow, we now have found that Lachlan & Ann had 2 sons - Alexander b.1869 & Lachlan b.1871. I am now attempting to identify the correct death details for Lachlan Kennedy who may have died between July 1870- March 1871 - for his younger son Lachlan to be born 1st May 1871.
I think there was a marine death but the age was 20 yrs so unlikely to be correct Lachlan.
May I raise another missing event - the marriage of Lachlan's grandfather -details I have taken from the death record of Colin Kennedy a Shoemaker d 7th Aug 1856 at Kildalton Argyll , father shown as Lachlan Kennedy Wollen Weaver, and mother Margaret Cameron both b Argyll around 1780. Can you suggest reliable source of Marriage/Birth Events for Islay & surrounding parishes in Argyllshire for this early period?

There is a death for a Lachlan Kennedy 1870 Bonhill Dunbarton , born c1838 :-\

Aside from SP and familysearch, the two main sites that I know of for Islay, which are interlinked really now are:
http://homepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~steve/islay/data.htm

Added: Due to Ted Larson's death in 2007, looks like the second link is no longer live unfortunately.

I had spotted this earlier , given the dates in light of the census for Ann Kennedy I paid for the cert but not the correct Lachlan,
there are others Lanchaln d 1869 age 70 yr in Tyree
Lachlan d 1879 age 20 yr in Kildalton although this one seems to also show as marine register same yr but the age is incorrect.

Monica, Thanks for these leads I take a close look after the weekend.#
I realise early records can be hit & miss but would like to find some BMD entries for Kennedys.

Hello,
What do we know of Ann Fletcher? I am looking for an Ann Fletcher who was born in Kilchoman, Islay in 1845, found there on 1851 census, found at Kilmeny on 1861 census (age 16 years). Her parents were Angus Fletcher and Ann McPhail. Would this be the same Ann who married Loclan Kennedy, do you know? Thank you!
Mary Fletcher Harris

The Ann Fletcher I have on the Family Tree was b1837 Kilchoman parents Duncan & Mary McFadyen, so not the same person. I did find the links very helpful as provided by MonicaL - see prev posts.
