Anyone know the whereabouts Stirrup(s) Fold, Ironbridge, Shrops was, 1881? Jayne

In the 1871 Census Stirrup's Fold is next to the Foresters Arms, Madeley, Shropshire,

Thanks Stan, Shropshire Archives couldn't find it!! They said it was near Lincoln Hill, Ironbridge, as that was next on the 1881 census. Jayne

Hi Jayne,
Can you give me the 1881 census details?
Stan

Sorry Stan, It was 1871 census.( Walter Petit, aged 32, born Islington.)
Civil parish Madeley. Borough Wenlock. Eccl.Dist Ironbridge.
-
I have my doubts that the present day Foresters Arms, is the same one in the 1871 census

Telford Shrops is now all roundabouts and new builds. Only the very old buildings remaining are mainly around the riverside area.
I'm going to Ironbridge Gorge Museum/library to see if they can help.

The last census reference I can find is a single entry in 1901 - 2526 63 7(Joseph Evans age 36-Stirrups Fold Madeley)
This property is listed next to Belle Vue Lane,Belle Vue House and a Lincoln House. There is a current listing for a Lincoln House,Ironbridge- postcode TF8 7QG.
Hopefully this may provide another approximate location
