Went to the churchyard at Llanwnda at the beginning of the week hoping to find my gggrandparents grave.
Not a profitable exercise due to the cold and the size of the churchyard.
Now I am wondering if anyone who has access to the MIs would be willing to look it up for me.
John and Elizabeth Jones, Talysarn, formerly of Caeglas. John died around 1896. I was hoping that I could find out when Elizabeth died from the headstone.
Thanks

Hi,
Had a look at Llanwnda Parish Burial Register at Caernarfon Archives today. Latest one they've got ends 03/03/1896. No John or Elizabeth in 1896. Probably the one after that is still in use. Didn't have time to look at MIs - had a bus to catch ! What reason have you to believe that the burials were at Llanwnda Parish Church cemetery ? Talysarn is in the Parish of Llanllyfni, so they could have been buried in any of a number of cemeteries in that Parish, or ones in cemeteries within the Parish of Llandwrog, which lies between the two.
Further info required to be able to help you.

Hi,
I have Gwynedd Family History Society's Booklet with a list of burials for Salem Chapel, Llanllyfni and there are "possible" entries which could be your John and Elizabeth.
Can you please give their dates of birth and I will look again at the booklet.

Since my previous posting I have found John Jones' obituary in "Gwyliedydd" 30 Nov 1898. It states that he died on 18 Nov and was buried in the Church Cemetry, Llanwnda. ( Claddwyd ym mynwent yr Eglwys, Llanwnda)
From censuses they appear to have left Caeglas in the 1880's.
Their son named his house Caeglas and the name has followed the family as an unofficial surname!!!
Diolch
