Title: Peebleshire Geography help
Post by: BillyF on Sunday 14 April 13 20:31 BST (UK)
Is there an area of Innerleithen called Newlands ?

I have a birth which I think is correct, although the mother`s name is missing. The father`s name and occupation is right, but  the birth was registered by the grandfather, so would that have been usual or should I be looking for the death of the mother ( in childbirth )

Thanks in advance

The National Library of Scotland maps website will give you free access to old maps of the area, including large-scale Ordnance Survey ones.

It is not unusual for a grandfather to register the birth of a grandchild.

Thanks for your offer, but I have had someone else look at the name and I misread the christian name altogether, so at the moment I`ll pass on your kindness, but I may contact you later if that`s ok. I believe there to be another person to research in that area.

Thanks once again
