Hello,
Can anyone help me please? I'm trying to find the exact grave location of my Great Grandmother - Jennie Nicholson (nee Donald I believe) who was buried at Rake Lane Cemetery in Wallasey, Cheshire on 5 May 1950. Thanks very much in advance, Liz
-
I called in at Landican Cemetery, they have the records for Rake Lane Cemetery . They do not have a burial for Jennie Nicholson around the date of 5th May 1950

Hi Liz and welcome to Rootschat.
I couldn't find any trace of a death for Jennie Nicholson on Free BMD or other sites. Alan kindly checked at Landican too.
However, there is marriage for Jennie Nicholson to Edwin Garratt in 1925. So I checked the burial records for you and found a burial for Jennie Garratt on 5th May 1950 in Rake Lane. So went to the cemetery and took at photo of the gravestone if you would like to see it. Hope this is ok ?
Kind regards
Neptune

I would be very grateful if someone could do a look up for me for Rake Lane Cemetery.
My great, great grandfather, Henry Hesketh, died 2nd September 1919, at 38 Trafalgar Road, Wallasey, so he is most likely to be buried there. I'm interested to know if his wife, Mary, is buried with him.
Thanks
Christine

Hi! I was wondering if someone might be able to look up a few names for possible graves and locations in Rake Lane Cemetery for me?
I'm in search for a family which I think may be buried there.
The first is Simeon James Gearing - born 1865, died 1939.
The second is Alice Gower - born 1863, died 1945.
The third is Hilda Frances - born 1897, died 1936.
And lastly, Sydney James Gearing - born 1898, died 1973.
If any of these could be located it would be a massive help! I would be very grateful to anyone that may be able to help.
Thanks, Bethan

I haven't got the time to trawl through the burial records but had a look at Monumental Inscriptions. None of them are listed. This could mean they were buried without headstones or buried/cremated elsewhere. They are not listed in the local churchyards either.
I looked at some of the street directories and only found a Sydney Gearing on Merseyside who was living in 7 Poplar Bank, Huyton. That was the 1946 directory. In the 1964 one, he is living at number 5 Poplar Bank. Sadly a lot of the directories in Wallasey are missing due to bombing in the war.
There were too many Francis names to go through in a limited time but no one of the name Frances in the MI's. Sorry I can't be of more help!
-
Thankyou for helping me out! I realised that I'd made a mistake on my previous post, her name was not Hilda Frances but Hilda Frances Gearing - she is the one I am in fact most interested to find out about as she died young at 39. Would it be possible to check the records again for her with the right name this time? - I'm sorry this was my mistake!! Don't worry if not, but I would be very grateful. Thanks again for all your help!

Hello. I'm trying to locate the exact position of my grandfathers grave, Samuel Edward Pemberton in Rake Lane. The plot number is 12G90 and is an unmarked grave with 5 people interred. I know it is near a grave for an 'Emma Bott' but would like to know exactly where. Could anyone help?
Thanks. Paul.

Hi Bethan,
Had another look but nothing again. I can maybe try the records in Birkenhead but it won't be until the kids summer holidays?
Paul, I have taken photo's of Emma Bott's grave and estimated roughly where your grave is. The numbering in that section is particularly bad.
For some unknown reason I cannot post the photo's. Mod I am not getting the attachment option showing?? I'm not sure if Paul can use the PM yet but if he can, please send email address and I will send them.

No replies from both above. I don't want medals, just replies.

Hi I am really sorry I didn't realise you had replied to me until now! I didn't get a notification and have only just come back and checked.
Thankyou so much for all your help - I am still on the hunt for this family if you do by any chance have any time to check at Birkenhead that would be amazing. If we could find any of the family members it would be amazing. Here is an outline of them again -
Simeon James Gearing b.1865 d.1939
Alice Gearing b.1863 d.1945 possibly?
Hilda Frances Gearing b.1897 d.1936
Sydney James Gearing b.1898 d.1973
Is there any other info you need me to provide that would be of help?
Many thanks and sorry again!!!

Hi,
Could someone possibly look up two graves for me?
I'm trying to find William Pickthall died 1985 to 1987 and his wife Agnes Pickthall (nee Hussleberry) died 1987. If it helps their son Martin William Pickthall's ashes were scattered on the graves. Born October 1969 died 2000.
Thanks

Welcome to the boards, Victoria.
If no-one responds on here, there is a 'friends of the cemetery' who will do look ups for a small charge. Read about the cemetery and the friends here:

I will try and find them during the next week. The dates are quite recent and I am sure the cemetery was full at that time so unless they had previous family, it is possible they are buried at Frankby. I will see what I can find out.
-
I wondered about that, but if the son's ashes were scattered on the graves, someone must have gone to the correct place.
-
Victoria, I have done some preliminary digging but you need to post a couple more times to be able to use the PM service.

Why do some people make a request and then don't bother to follow up replies?

I wonder if any kind soul might be able to help me to find a grave in Rake Lane Cemetery.
William Herbert FOX was buried there on 23 Feb 1981, the husband of Isabella FOX, aged about 83 years old.
I would be very grateful for any information that you could let me have (grave reference, location, owner, occupants, etc.), that would help me get a photograph of the headstone (if there is one).
Thanks,
John

Hi jwynne
Got to the website below and find the name Fox in the index, there are a number of people named Fox. Once you've got the details from the index you can search the inscriptions. I haven't tried it myself yet so let me know if you find what you are looking for :)

Thanks, but there's no first names or dates, and 9 possible FOX graves. I'll have to try elsewhere.
Got it! Worked it out, once I'd read the instructions.

I've just tried it out. Once you've found the name and the index numbers check the page called about the cemetary, this will give you the area where your people are buried eg Church of Engand, Catholic etc. Once you know the area go to the search page again. Further down the page you'll see 'the inscription files'. click on the area your looking for then you can follow the numbers down to find the inscription :)

The MI's for Rake lane are now online with search facility. I won't link in case it is copyright but have passed it on to mod for her opinion. I'm sure a google will find it easily enough.
