Its in the diary! Hope to meet some of the very helpful people from the site that day.
-
I have ancestors from Cambuslang, so might see if I can get up to Scotland for that day. Could be very interesting. Will call at the stand and say hello.
Anyone related to Strachan from that area reading this?
-
Thanks for letting us know about this putting it in my diary !
Just need the day off now
Here's hoping

Only 5 weeks till the show now, and it's going to be a great day. The event is now fully booked for stall holders with over 70 exhibitors. We cant wait to meet and welcome everyone especially Sarah & Trystan and all our fellow rootschatters. For the latest updates visit the shows website.
Also book your speakers ticket in advance if your wanting to hear them to avoid disappointment.

Not long to go now until the Lanarkshire Family History Fair a week on Saturday ;D
My Aunt and Gadget have told me to go prepared.....
Sarah ;)
-
Hi Sarah,
I think your aunt and Gadget are at the wind up! It's being held in Motherwell not Achiltibuie. I think you can save a few pence by not buying the midge repellant.
However, it could cost you a few pounds to bribe the Border Police to let you in.

Are we going to have a Rootschatters' Rendezvous somewhere? I don't know the venue at all so am not in a position to suggest where might be suitable.
In fact I don't think I have ever been in Motherwell, except once when I got lost trying to find my way back to the M8 from Blantyre.
-
We had a lovely wee chat with Sarah at Family History Show, thank you Sarah it was lovely to meet you..... :)
-
Hi All,
I had a great day at the Lanarkshire FHS day, think ti wasb very successful. Glad to meet Trystan and Sarah, Forfarian (Anne) and put faces to names. Met lots of RootsChat regulars too many to mention.
First time I had been on a "stand", it's hard work standing and talking all day, that's me qualified to get a job with the council now, although I didn't have a brush or shovel in my hand.
Tom aka "tidybooks"

Really happy to hear it has all gone well today Tom :)
Monica
-
Hi Monica,
A few people approached the stand looking for you, you were mentioned a few times. How are you after your long media holiday?
Tom
-
Here I am ;) Looking at the rain bounce off the patio :-\
Monica
-
we were there today with the West Lothian Family History Society. Was really good meeting Sarah and Tristan, didn't realise they created Rootschat.
Hope to see you again at another one :-)
-
Great meeting other RootsChat folks and helping to promote such a wonderful site! Lang may yer lum reek.... in other words.....continued success to all concerned in whatever way they use the site.
Hope to see you all again somewhere in the not too distant future.

So glad I went along. The place was "fair buzzing" , obviously so many people are also very involved in chasing down the past.
Good to meet Tidybooks and sorry that Monica was not there, perhaps next time.
By the way Tidybooks I obviously did not appear the way you had imagined, but isn't that part of the joy of " rootschat".
I came away with a lot of info to be followed up in my own slow, very slow way.
Hope everybody had a great day. I know that the local societies felt it was a great feather in their cap that " Rootschat" chose to visit Motherwell.
-
Good to meet Tom, Sarah and Trystan - sorry I missed you all, Capricorn, mhomac, sancti and maxcam!
Probably did see pcamgen on the WLFHS stand, where I spent a while admiring Tom's latest acquisition - the Craigmaillen registers.
-
Really enjoyed the day and great to see so many people of all ages enjoying themselves. The displays from the schoolchildren were great.
-
I've just noticed that my name has been mentioned. Honest injun, I was a bit perplexed by Sarah saying her aunt had mentioned Jungle juice (in Motherwell!) but I suggested Skin So soft ;D ;D ;D
Glad you all had a good day :)
I'm up here in the far North West and have been bitten rotten by those nasties while sorting some stuff out in my studio AND before that we drove 50 ml round trip to get some smoked salmon - tis mad we are ::)
The Ullapool Museum is going to re-open in the Autumn and it seems that we have thwarted an odd group who want to introduce average speed cameras on the A9 ::) ::)
Me ;D :-*
PS - Tom, I do hope you kept off the Morangie :-X

Hi Gadget,
Had a good day, felt very hoarse at the end of the day, and I must admit to having a few medicinal Morangies to recover my voice. Why does my head hurt when I only took it for medicinal purposes.
Tom

Hi,I was there with my mum. That's how I am here today.Spoke to a dark haired fellow, would that be you then Tom? Was admiring the photos, loved the one with the legless footballer and the aircraft and crew. Great day.Glad we went.

That's just to let you know the medicine was working :D
It was nice to meet you Tom I just wish I could have spent more time both at the Rootschat display and at the fair in general.

It was nice to meet you also, I did not get the time to have a long discussion, but great to put a face to the name. Hope to meet again.

Knowing how these things go...Tom was likely off refreshing his voice and mind ;D
Monica...who is so sad she wasn't there too to be able to put faces to names etc. :'(
-
Be honest Monica
You didn't come because it didn't require a new hat :P
-
:P You know me too well!
M :)

A very big thanks to Sarah & Trystan for coming to our show, and to all the roots chatters who came along to meet them. It was a really successful day just sorry I didn't get a chance to meet you all but I was running about all day ensuring things went smoothly.
-
Well the chairman is getting on a bit Gerry, someone younger has to do the running about ;D
-
Guess from that Gerry and you Sancti are working hard ;D
Successful day for sure :) Well done all of you for organising this all. Have heard via emails etc how successful the day has been so congratulations to all of you for all the organisation.
Monica
-
Hi Gerry and the LFHS,
I can only echo Monica's sentiment re your organisation, it was superb. From 10:00am the crowds thronged the place. I understand this was your first event, and what a great success it was. I never met you personally, but spoke to Bob, your chairman, who said you were dealing with the lectures etc.
Had a great day, I would do it again, now I have regained my voice.
Tom.

Still going ahead as far as I know. Ironic really because its being introduced as a response to constant carping of those who instead ought to be thanking their lucky stars that we are all daft enough to be spending £3billion on what is going to be the most lightly loaded dual carrigeway in the UK.

I enjoyed the day very much, it was lovely to meet Sarah, to see the variety of information available at all the stalls, and to meet up with my old SFT buddies too! A good venue and the day seemed very well organised - well done folks! :)

If I thought it would improve safety on that damnably dangerous road, I wouldn't mind. At best it will not improve anything, and at worst it will exacerbate the problem by slowing the lorries down still further. The problem isn't people travelling for long distances at above the speed limit (chance to travel at the limit would be a fine thing), it's people frustrated by crawling along behind convoys of lorries trying to overtake when there isn't room. No average speed camera ever invented can possibly detect short bursts of excessive speed after tens of miles at under 40 mph. They would do far better to put the money towards dualling the rest of it.
