Thank you Terry and ajjbc, this George could possibly be a brother to my ancester William Brownlees born 1787.

I was only guessing at the age of Williams father,  if he is not buried in Greenlaw maybe he also came to England like William but I don't somehow think that is very likely.

Once again thank you for replying.

Wendy

Wendy,

Whom did William b.1787 marry?

When did he move to England and do you have his death certificate confirming parentage?

Thanks,
Bethan

Hello Bethan I can't be sure but I believe he married Mary Meyrick in 1817.

I don't know when he moved to England.

English death certificates do not give parents names I'm afraid.

Hope this helps.

Wendy

Hi Wendy,

How about a marriage certificate? Does that link William to the 1787 William born in Greenlaw?

Can I ask you please why you are asking me these questions?
Are you connected to this man?

Kind regards

Wendy

Hello Wendy,

I descend from a cousin of William.

George Burnlees & Margaret Marshall had (with their names as per the OPRs):

George Brownlees (b.1775) m. Elizabeth Johnstone
Catharine Brownlees (b.1776)
Alexander Brownlees (b.1779)
John Brownlees (b.1781) m. Helen Haldane, d.1856
James Burnlees (b.1784) m. Isobel Currie
William Burnlees (b.1787)
Elizabeth Burnlees (b.1793) m. Peter Cairns, d.1873

Although I have not extensively researched this family, I'd be interested in adding a spouse / death date for William - especially if he moved to England. Ultimately I would like to create precise tree for the Brownlees of Greenlaw and I haven't previously found details for William.

Hello again Bethan thanks for telling me the connection.

I have come across this family before but being unable to actually prove they are William's family I only have them as possibles.

There is a good chance they are as some of those names were given to William's grandchildren which makes it more probable.

I only have a transcription of the marriage, again no parents names are given.

William was buried on 11 August 1871 in Hemel Hempstead, his wife Mary was buried on 14 October 1839 also in Hemel Hempstead.

William was a successful nursery and seedsman and bred an apple in 1848 called the Brownlees Russett.

William is my husbands 3xtimes great grandfather.

Hope this is useful to you.

Wendy
