Title: DBSIG: Problems accessing DBIG (mobiles)
Post by: Irisheaton on Sunday 28 April 13 21:44 BST (UK)
I have just joined this site because I'm doing research which has thrown up a number of German pork butchers in Newcastle upon Tyne and I wanted to see if they and others were already on the database.. However the link to the webpage above doesn't seem to work. Can anyone help?

It worked for me.

For a more direct link just go to this page and then select letter for the surname-

Thank you for replying. That's not working for me either. Weird but I'll leave it 24 hours or so and try the techies. Hopefully there's just a time delay on allowing access to a new subscriber..

When you click on the link I posted what happens?

This one: http://www.rootschat.com/lexicon/dbsig/gpb-quick-search.php ie a 404 page not found but branded Roots Chat. It's strange!

Yes that's the one that gives me the page not find. Frustrating and sorry to waste your time. Can only think its the ipad but not experienced anything similar before.

The German pork butchers I'm wanting to look up and, if theyre not already on the database, contribute are George Pfaff and Henry Abel, both running a butcher's shop at 185 Shields Rd, Newcastle.

Just to confirm, using an ipad it tried to open the link in a new tab but it comes up with 404 error.  Also when I return to the original Rootschat thread on the first tab (which I access using the full site) it has reverted to the mobile version....

Looks like its a job for Trystan to sort out.

Hi All,

Sorry about that. The forum update last year made it easier to access RootsChat on mobile devices, but there are still the occasional stumbling stones, and this looks like one of them.

I don't have a mobile device myself, so I've passed the problem on to Trystan.

regards,
Bob

ps.
How about other "Reference Library" projects (SIT, Lexicon, etc) ?
Can you access them on mobile devices ?

I'm looking into this problem, so hopefully I'll have a fix for this in the next couple of hours.

I'm still looking into a fix, however in the mean time Android tablet and newer mobile users can tap on the row of three vertical dots on the top right of their browser, and select 'Request desktop site'. This will then take you to the correct page.  :)
