I am currently researching the Rose family i have got back to Frederick Rose born C 1880 born in Henley Oxfordshire parent William Rose and Ann Maria Barnes.
William Rose was born C 1856 this is where i am having trouble I am trying to find either birth, christening or marriage record for William as when looking on the census for 1871 there are two records for William born c 1856 one at Eghams Green, Wooburn and one at Well End, Little Marlow. His children on the 1891 census are born in Little Marlow and Wooburn so cannot seem to find the right William Rose. I don't know which William Rose is mine I think i have gone back up the wrong William Rose line and the one i have got is all wrong.
Is there anyone that can sort my quandary out.

Yes that is the family i'm looking for. It looks like i'm going to have to send for the marriage certificate of William Rose and Ann Maria Barnes. I was hoping it was going to be a bit simplier than doing that but there we go.

There is a William Rose bn Wooburn c1856 married to a Sarah and living in Middlesborough on later census

Thank you i did look at these census records but was unsure if this was the William i am looking for or not as he seems to be a long way from home and his children that he had in High Wycombe.

Your William is consistent with his place of birth as Little Marlow, the other William always gives his as Wooburn. I would say the parents of yours are Charles & Harriet.

This is the family line i have gone up as the Parrents as Charles Rose & Harriet Twitchen. The only way for sure to know if i'm going up the right line is to order William and Ann Maria Barnes wedding certificate and see who his father is.

I have Little Marlow PRs on a Bucks FHS CD and I just cannot find a baptism around 1856 for a William Rose! I can see that FreeBMD have 2 William Roses born that year in the Wycombe Reg District and I can also see some of Charles & Harriet's children baptised in L Marlow - but no William!
[1857 James, 1860 Henry, 1870 Charlie, 1872 Minnie - all of Charles & Harriet of Well End, L Marlow.]
Sorry to put the cat in amongst the pigeons! perhaps he was never baptised - or baptised elsewhere? I also checked Great Marlow PRs for his baptism, with no success.
I can see little Frederick's baptism in L Marlow:
14 Mar 1880 William Frederick child of William & Anna Maria Rose of Spring Gardens, labourer.
From the Henley St Mary PRs (Oxon FHS CD):
baptised 11 Aug 1861 Ann Maria Barnes d/o William, shoemaker, and Sophia of West Hill.

James Rose 1857 Little Marlow

Thank you for the Baptism of Ann Maria Barnes as i hadn't got as far as finding out her parents i got in a bit of a muddle with the Rose family.
I hadn't seen the over Rose post i am going to private message them to see if there is any connection. My own question now is were is Hedsor.

Hedsor is about 3 miles east of Little Marlow and was a parish in its own right so might just hold the answer to where the other children were baptised. They are available on CD from Bucks FHS but unfortunately I don't own a copy.
I suppose , being the first child, William may have been baptised wherever Anna maria's family were living at the time - not Henley, I checked!

Thank you for that i will try and send of for a CD. May have to look further afield for the baptism of William my husbands family seem to be harded to find than mine but it did help that i had a lot more to go on with mine i'm doing his from the begining as noone has done it before.

I have sent for the marriage certificate of William Rose and Ann Maria Barnes and am just waiting for it to arrive so i can confirm who Williams father is. My next question is if Williams father is Charles Rose and mother Harriet Twitchen who is Charles Rose family as now i have found two Charles Roses
John Rose & Ann with children
Robert Rose & Susannah with children
Charles is an ag lab on 1851 census or a water cress labourer depending on which is my Charles.

I have finally got the marriage certificat of William Rose and Ann Maria Barnes which confirms the father as Charles Rose which is good as this is the family I have gone up. My next problem is that there are two Charles Rose my question if anone can help is the family i'm looking for all come from Spring Gardens Little Marlow does anyone know where Marlow Moore in Little Marlow would have been. I have go one Charles Rose living at Spring Gardens and one at Marlow Moore in the 1841 census.
I would be grateful if anyon can help me with this.

The area is (just west of) "Abbotsbrook" searched via Streetmap.co.uk

30 July 1855 Charles Rose, X bach full age, labourer of Spring Gardens, Little Marlow, son of John Rose, labourer &
Harriet Twitchen full age, spinster of Little Marlow, daughter of James Twitchen, retailer of beer. By Banns. Witnesses: Jesse Cook, Emily Twitchen. [I was hoping for Noddy or Big Ears!!!!]
That should help identify the right Charles - unless both their father's were called John, of course!

Thank you so much for all your help and information provided it has been so helpful. I have gone up the wrong family from Charles Rose I went up the other family with his parents being Robert and Susannah Rose I had a feeling that i had gone up the wrong line.
Thank you Rosie for finding the census record for the family.
Now to find out where all this extra information takes me.

I was just revisiting some past posts and notice your questions regarding the Rose Family of Little Marlow and in particular of Charles Rose. I am researching that line ... John and Ann from Spring Gardens as I believe one of their daughters was my great, great grandmother and came to Australia.
I was curious to know if you followed that line and if so did you want to make contact.

John Rose married Ann Harmon haven't managed to find any marriage for them at the moment
they had the following children
Emma 1821
James 1823
Eliabeth 1828
Charles 1830
Abraham 1832
Lucey 1835
Louisa 1838
John 1839
Carolne 1843
George 1845
Thomas 1847
These children i have managed to find on the 1841 and 1851 census's i also believe that their was possible at least one other child Mary b1826? All the children and Ann Harmon were born in Little Marlow Bucks. I also believed that John Rose was born in Little Marlow, Bucks but having found him on the 1851 census it says his birth town was in Chippenham in Wiltshire an his mum was Priscilla also born in Chippeham, Wiltshire how would i go about verifying this and finding out John fathers name.
Also it mentions the John's occupation was Alms of Parish does anyone know what this would have been.
