Canada Voters List 1957 and 1958 shows a Joseph Fountain (retired) at 43 Donald Ave York South Ontario. Also Ellen Fountain.
That seems to tie in with the address on the marriage of Effie to Vincent Vinelli. ;D

Hi Sandra,
Thanks for all your help. Joseph was born 1880 in Sunderland, England. His wife Ellen Brown was born 1881 in Morpeth, England. Their daughter Elsie born 1906 in Sunderland. The marriage records have Elsie as Effie George when she married Mr Vanelli her second husband. And when she married George it was Elfie Fountain. This is amazing...I wondered how first Husband died...

The Toronto Star archives are online at the Pages of the Past website, I believe they are not very expensive to search or hopefully, someone with access might come along and find something more positive.

Canada voters List 1935 - Mr Vincent Vanelli (labourer) and Mrs Vincent Vanelli (married woman) - 16 Marshall Boulevard York West Ontario.
Canada Voters List 1940 - 16 Marshall Boulevard - Mr Vincent Vanelli (baker) and Mrs Vincent Vanelli.
Canada Voters List 1945 - 75 Gray Ave. York West. Ontario. Mr Vincent Vanelli (baker) and Mrs Vincent Vanelli.
No record on Voters List after this date. Although there are a couple of entries around 1965 which could be a son of the same name ???
Interesting Canada Voters 1968 - 51 Cornwallis Drive - York Scarborough Ontario. Could be a son with a wife and Mrs Elfie Vanelli (retired) ???

Sandra this is fantastic...last night I only discovered the marriage of my 2nd great grand aunt Eliza to Tom Fountain. Eliza and Tom were the parents of Joseph. The grandparents to Elsie/Elfie.
I know Vincent may have been born in 1905 in Italy, possibly Montalto Uffugo Italy. His parents were Ralph Vanelli and Clare Cinicola. Be really amazed to discovered what happened to Joseph and Ellen. If they had further children? And whether Elfie had children, I will look at all you have kindly provided.
In 1927 Elfie was at 43 Donald Ave, and Vincent at 366 Oakwood Ave.

Privacy Laws are restricting the searches - There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs. Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further. Additionally, some provinces are more research friendly than others so researching in Canada can be challenging. The last available Canadian Census was 1911 apart from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta which was 1916. 1921 is due shortly which might show if Joseph and Ellen had further children. As a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago. Trying to trace modern day families in Canada depends on newspaper announcements, cemetery records, obituaries, telephone directories etc.,

Thanks for the insight into Canada :)...never ever researched Canadian Records hence appeal.
Maybe it would have been better doing a further topic appealing for Vanelli/Vanelli of Toronto? Whats your thoughts Sandra?

1945 is a free search and the alleged murder is on there!! Got to get reading. Photos in paper and sons listed too..with address Gray Ave :)
-
Just saw those and yes, it all seems to fit. The eldest son was named after grandfather and appears in Canada Voters Lists. The youngest was named after his father.
Elfie Vanelli (factory worker) appears with eldest son and wife at 75 Gray Ave on the 1957/58 Voters List.
Interment for Vincent Vanelli was Mount Hope Cemetery.
Seems to have been a daughter as well - the eldest child of the 3.

Yes it all seems to fit. Once again thank you.

Maybe Canada 411 would help locate some relatives ???

Hi, my name is Lisa Vanelli and I am the daughter of the late Vincent Vanelli and grand-daughter of Elfie Vanelli. I have actually been trying to find information on the Fountain family so this is quite ironic! Feel free to contact me and I'd be glad to help with whatever information I could provide, and I would appreciate the same from you regarding the Fountains. My grandmother's background has been somewhat of a mystery any information would be appreciated.

Hello all. I am also a descendant of the Fountain family. My grandmother was a sister to Elfie (Fountain) Vanelli. The Toronto Star archives (July 25, 1945) had an article about Elfie murdering Vincent. She did a bit of time at 999 Queen Street psychiatric hospital for the crime!
-
Hi there, I'm Lisa and the youngest grandchild of Elfie Vanelli, nee Fountain. My grandmothers early life is a virtual mystery to me and most of my family, all we know is that she was sent to Canada at a young age. Even her first marriage is only known by some and is a mystery as well. Can you shed some light on the history? Thank you very much for the response.
Sincerely,
Lisa.

Joseph and Ellen Fountain and their children on the 1921 census.. in York Township
http://central.bac-lac.gc.ca/.item/?app=Census1921&op=img&id=e003053634
Parents and oldest 3 children born in England. Joseph is a woodworker. Says he came to Canada in 1910 and his wife and children came in 1911.
Next two families are also Fountains...worth having a look at them too.
RK

You can have a look for the children born in England on the GRO site... Surname Fountain, mother's maiden name Brown. Andy said the family was from Sunderland (see original post)
Looks like
John Victor Dunbar Fountain - b Sunderland 1903
Elsie (likely your Elfie) - b Sunderland 1906
Edith - b Sunderland 1909
Other children born in Ontario
Free BMD has Joseph Fountain and Ellen Brown married in Sunderland in 1902.

Lisa...I will ask my mother for any info regarding Elfie. All the Fountain siblings are long gone but there are lots of children, grand kids and great grandchildren in Ontario, Canada. Will post more info when I get it.

Hi Lisa,
Regarding Elfie or should I say Elsie, she was born in Sunderland, England in 1906 she is my 2nd cousin 2x removed. I am fully aware of the articles posted relating to her and her husband, Elfie parents Joseph and Ellen Brown emigrated to Canada in late 1910. Her grandfather Thomas Fountain married my 3 x great aunt Elizabeth Ann Hutson/Hudson. Looking at Sandras posts she has provided information I did not have which I need to confirm is correct within my tree time frame, but yes we are related. Please do PM me. Sorry delay replying I dont visit this site very often but so glad I did.
