Title: Link: The Down Survey of Ireland (1656 - 1658)
Post by: shanew147 on Sunday 12 May 13 14:33 BST (UK)
The Down Survey of Ireland was carried out between about 1656 and 1658 to measure all the land to be forfeited by the Catholic Irish in order to facilitate its redistribution to Merchant Adventurers and English soldiers. The original survey was lost but details have been painstakingly reassembled from copies of portions of the survey gathered in libraries and archives throughout Ireland, Britain and France.

Maps reveal owners of lands taken by Cromwell (http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/maps-reveal-owners-of-lands-taken-by-cromwell-29259859.html)   (Irish Independent)

The survey details and maps, number of acres forfeited, names of landowners in 1641 and 1670 plus several other details  are available on a section of the Trinity College Website.
