Hi again Greg  ;)

Now this is a long shot except that it mentions Edgar and Mullewa and Matron Rose (weren't we looking for a Nurse Rose - I'd better link in old thread in a moment)

David A Edgar married Mignon A Rose in 1922 in Perth.
And in 1923 Mignon A Edgar died in Mullewa, wfe of David Edgar and daughter of Matron Rose of Mullewa Hospital

I received a copy of Fredericks will and he bequeathed all he had to his nephew.. Ross Edgar when he reached the age of 21. This was in 1937.
Title: Re: Edgar, Ross
Post by: rosball on Tuesday 28 May 13 14:43 BST (UK)
So the will was written in 1937 ....?  Or was it probated in 1937?   And it is possible that David Rossington Edgar (known as Ross to distinguish him from his father  [speculation]) was the nephew even though he was only 16'ish at the time ...?

cheers,
  Ros

adding : And given that David Rossington Edgar's mother died just after his birth he may have been raised by his grandmother Matron Minnie Rose at the time Frederick was living with her. [more speculation]

Can you please give us all the details on the will?  Witnesses etc.  You never know what may help Greg.   (getting late here and not focussing well but David Rossiter Edgar was closest I could find on ER in Mullewa and then a google search found that tree)

cheers,
  Ros

Adding :

It's all pointing to Matron Minnie Rose being the Nurse Minnie Rose that you were looking for Greg.  And she is grandmother of David Rossiter Edgar and they were in Mullewa at the right time.

cheers,

Hi all,
a few things still puzzle me a little.

In Fredericks service records he states (NOK) Minnie Rose (now looks certain to be the Matron!) as his wife. Maybe they were just partners? It seems she had a few children but none to Frederick?

Also in the Matrons death notice it mentions her late husband  "William Rose" so finding out when he died would be handy (as long as it was before WW1 otherwise things get interesting!)

Hopefully after 30 years of searching I might be able to return his medal to a relative!!! :)

I found someone who new Fred

He remembers Fred very well! Apparently Fred lived in a place called Anzac house next to a home/hospice that was opened and run by......... Minnie Rose! They formed a de facto relationship.
He remembers listening to some of Freds war stories particularly one were he had to shoot his own horse as they could not bring them back from Egypt. He was a cousin of Ross Edgar (now deceased, drowned) but Ross had one son.. who lives in Darwin.
His wife (Marion) died a while ago but he would like to catch up and see the medal as well as Freds service records. He also said that Minnies daughter died at childbirth and that Minnie raised the child (Ross!).
I just have to try and get in touch with a possible son of Ross as he is doing some family research so I am sure he will be interested.
thanks for now I will keep updated!

cheers
Greg

Oh Greg that is wonderful news!  Fantastic result  :)

I'm just a bit concerned that you have mentioned living people though - we are not supposed to mention them here.  Perhaps you could just modify your post (hit modify and then backspace over the name leaving just the initial).

Great result  :)

The story of Mullewa matron
Geraldton Guardian16 Jun 2020Peter Sweeney

Minnie Rose with children Charles, Mena, Rheta, Ernest and Margaret.
Mignon Lewis only wanted to be a nurse. William Rose only wanted her to be his wife.
It sounds as though it ended as it started — but the early settlers of Mullewa and the Mid West were lucky he got ...     Here is an article on my great grandma Minnie https://images.app.goo.gl/LkZLGqYZMPiTRXkXA photo of William my my grandfather ...

David Ross Edgar ('Ross") was born 15-3-1922 and died at Pine Creek in the Northern territory (Australia) 17.12.1978. He was a member of the Australian Army during WWII and joined a parachute battalion. Although fully trained, Ross was never involved in combat. He married Alma Violet Thomas aka Alma Violet Croft) in 1946. Alma Violet was always known as Vi and she was previously married to a Charles Blackborrow. Viand Ross had one son (still living). After discharge from the Army, it is believed that Ross and family went to live in Broome Western Australia. By all accounts, the relationship between Ross and Vi was anything but smooth. Violet left the marriage and went to live in Wyndham, where she died as a result of an accident, in 1957. Vi is buried in Wyndham. Ross is buried in the general cemetery in Darwin.
