I have come to a full stop on finding any information regarding Walter Barker and his family. I know he had a daughter Joyce who was 17 when she married James Lewis in Chesterfield in 1934. Her address was 14 Church Lane, Hackenthorpe, Beighton and the occupation of her father was Coal Miner. One of the witnesses at the wedding was A. Barker but I do not know who this is. I have been trying to find Joyce's birth and a marriage for Walter but nothing seems to tie up. Any chance someone can help me?

What about this birth?
Births Jun 1917
Barker Joyce mother's maiden name Cooper Chesterfield 7b 1272

There is a birth of a Joyce Barker in Q3 1917 in Chesterfield, MMN Cooper, but then I can't find timely marriage for a Walter Barker to a Ms Cooper.
Perhaps you could get someone to do you an electoral roll look-up for, say 1930-1934 for the address you quote in Beighton to see who was living there then. Joyce, being only 17, wouldn't show up of course, but it might give you somewhere to start.

I cant either. There appear to be only 3 Walter Barkers where there is a possible marriage to a Cooper between 1890 and 1919, none in Derbyshire.
1896 Wakefield possible Evelina Cooper
1899 Hartlepool possible Annie Cooper
1905 West Ham possible Emma Matilda Cooper

There are a few more possible births to the Chesterfield couple, did Joyce have any siblings?

I would just like to thank everyone for taking the time and trouble to help me with Walter. This time yesterday I was hitting my head against a brick wall and now I have such valuable information that I am raring to go to see what I can find.
Rosemary
PS never heard the name Evelina before

The only Barker I can remember from Streethouse was Martin and he lived on Litelroyd but that wasn't his given name, he moved to Sharlston and worked at the colliery there, his name may have been Edward. Was my mums age so DOB circa 1920

Hi, Evelina and Walter were my grandparents. Never met them as they died long before I was born. George Douglas (Dougie) was my dad and he grew up in Church Lane before serving in North Africa and Palestine. I met my Aunt Joyce when I was a boy, she visited us from South Africa. I believe her daughter was still alive not long ago, my brother would have more details. I might be able to provide more details privately. I think you have listed there my Aunt Ada who I remember being in a wheelchair. The oldest daughter was my Aunt Mary who’s son Walter died on HMS Hood in 1941 aged 20. I also had an uncle Walt whom I met again when I was a boy but died in the late 1980s if I recall, he lived somewhere in London.
