Probably far too late, but I think this is the place you are looking for: http://www.cofiadurcahcymru.org.uk/arch/query/page.php?watprn=DAT10047&dbname=dat&tbname=core

OS Map 149 Lampeter and Llandovery 1:50,000 following the grid reference given above locates it near a very minor road off the B4337 Temple Bar to Cribyn. Follow the yellow road to Dihewid, first turn on right, house marked Frongelyn, bend to the left and it is/was just along the next straight I think.  Deep Cardiganshire.

No but I lived in Wales for 20 years and learnt the language. Waves of hiraeth frequently.

Rydym yn byw yn Stirling, tref hanesyddol iawn, ond does dim llawer o siaradwyr Cymraeg yn yr ardal.

Jane,

My favorite quote is Scottish...it is the declaration of Arbroath !

".for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom – for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Now you know how I would vote...... if given the chance

Regards
Mike

Jane.
I have been told to use the National Library of  Scotland website and click map images. Apparently the maps are available there

Yes you could try the OS maps here - http://maps.nls.uk/os/  I just had a real map handy so used that, working from the co-ordinates.

Jane,

I have found it on the 1953 OS map. It was exactly as you said just up the lane from  Frongelyn farm.
I have looked it up on google maps and there doesn't appear to be even a ruin. I will however go there
and ask at the farm if they can say exactly where the cottage/ruins were.
I have to go to Llanfihangel Ystrad  anyhow to the churchyard where I believe my Great x 3 grandfather is buried. I have checked the records on line and with Ceredigion Family History Society and Dyfed Family History Society this time last year and also with the NLW....to no avail...But ! I have found transcription errors in their work so I am wiling to take a chance that I will find the grave.
Thank you again for your help.
Regards
Mike

Try using "Where's the path"  http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm (http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm)  allows side by side of OS and aerial photos with options to change to older maps too.

Hi Jane,
It's four and a half years since I last posted on this thread. I am remiss about three years ago (sorry ) I visited the ruin of Rhydycais Fach  after meeting with the farmer at Frongelyn who owns R.Y.C.F.
A very late post to say thanks.

It only works for adopted roads, and not in every country in the world, but Google Street View is very useful for finding if a building still exists. Recently I planned to visit a significant house in my research, but thought I'd look to see which end of a long road was the position of the house, and I discovered that there was a gap from number 30 to number 36, and a block of flats have been built in the place of these houses. A bit more Internet research showed that the house I was looking for was destroyed in 1940. It saved me a journey.  Google Earth can also be useful. Plus it's great fun anyway.
