Hi Simpsonsaga,

I have searched FreeReg and the LDS site, and cannot find a Peter Simpson b 1811 Gladsmuir. Where did you get this information, if from a census maybe dates are out.

Hi,

According to Anxxxtry, Peter Simpson in 1841, was born in Scotland, 1851 in Gladsmuir, 1861 in Hadington (sic) and 1871 in Gladsmuir.

George Simpson and Ann Myles married in 1799 in Canongate, and all the children were born there.

So I do not think the Gladsmuir Peter Simpson is connected with George Simpson and Ann Myles.

Is your ancestor the Peter Simpson I showed on the 1851 entry above?

If so - he was still alive in 1861 so tracing his death cert will give you his parents names and mothers maiden name

I notice there was another Peter and Marion Simpson living in the same area of Edinburgh as the 1851 Simpsons.

That Peter was b 1806 Edinburgh.

Hi All,

I have downloaded death certificate of Peter Simpson, widower of Marian Dickson, he was aged 73 on 6th November 1880, (so DOB approx. 1807) He was a French Polisher, which agrees with census details. His parents were Andrew Simpson(Sawyer) and Elizabeth Paxton. The certificate was signed by his son, Andrew, who I don't think he knew his late grandmothers first name.

Thanks very much for these generous replies, looks like im way out on the myles family and now see why Andrew was put as first born ,which doesnt usually fail, like putting the cart before the horse and spending too much money before having the proof and then pulling the plug.

Hello Simpsonsaga,

You may have this info already. Gladsmuir MIs have a Robert Simpson, farmer, died 18 Nov 1911 aged 73 years and his wife Margaret Myles died 9 April 1921 aged 84 years.
There are also several mentions of Myles MIs. Let me know if you wish the info on them.

many thanks for the reply on Robert Simpson and margaret Myles but after researching after such a long time on George Simpson and Ann Myles and therefor their children it turned out that my ancestor Peter Simpson father was Andrew Simpson and Elizabeth Paxton who was a sawyer in Galadsmuir so unless George Simpson was a brother of Andrew Simpson they are not related to me.My fault completely as one should never take other peoples info as gospel.I take this opportunity to add that anymore info on Gladsmuir on the family of Andrew Simpson and Elizabeth Paxton would be more than welcome as i have drwn a blank on the Paxtons and also the Simpsons.

Hello Kay,

Have a look at this link - Saltoun and Bolton Church. It also has information re Pencaitland.

ndhm.org.uk/

I have a Jean Paxton married to Peter Winton at Saltoun in 1790. Unfortunately, cannot find their deaths. However, the good news is that the minister at Pencaitland gave extra information at baptisms and marriages e.g. witness at baptism or marriage would show the relationship - uncle to the child, brother of the bride. I have been able to make links using the information given.
