Title: Alice Edwards bc 1823 Liverpool
Post by: BonnieDownUnder on Saturday 22 June 13 02:44 BST (UK)
Hello,
My 3xggm Alice Edwards arrived as an assisted immigrant, with her older sister, Elizabeth (bc 1821) into the Colony of NSW on the ship 'Formosa' 28 May 1839.  Her papers showed that she was to turn 16 years of age in the following month.

It seems both their parents were still alive at the time of their arrival;  Edward Edwards, a 'book-maker' and his wife Alice.

Have been unable to find baptismal records for either.

The girls married the Watson brothers;  Alice died in Sydney 1892 with father shown as William ? mother as Alice.  Have been unable to find when Elizabeth passed away.

Any assistance much appreciated, thanks.

wow ... thanks Claire.t, all that info is amazing ... thanks very much.

I presume that Alice snr. maiden name was Bradford or Broadford though with the word 'formerly' could it mean she had been married previously?

Am on the hunt to see if I can find them on C1841 and if any other siblings came to Australlia.

Thanks again. Bonnie

Hi Claire ... thanks for that, great find.  I still can't either Edward and/or Alice on C1841.  Also plotting their other children to see if any others came 'down under'
Regards Bonnie

Hi Claire, have found that Alice Watson nee Edwards, brother William, with his wife and children, also immigrated 'down under, arriving here on 03 Dec 1841 on the ship 'Columbine'.  His immigration records shows both his parents dead so that is maybe why I can't find Edward & Alice on C1841.

Strangely, also with them is William's sister Elizabeth, aged 19 years though she was with Alice on the ship Formosa when it arrived in 1839 ... rather odd?

Hi Claire ... I have got it wrong.  It was an ELIZA, aged 18 years, not Elizabeth, that accompanied my 3xgm ALICE EDWARDS, on the voyage to NSW in 1839.  So it seems there was another sister ELIZABETH EDWARDS who came with brother William in 1841 who was aged 17 years.

An Elizabeth Edwards, aged 21, married Richard Watson in 1843 ... but ELIZA fits the age not Elizabeth

... were they twins or Elizabeth fudged her age when she married Richard?
