Title: Hyams family in Melbourne
Post by: Bellou on Sunday 30 June 13 21:45 BST (UK)
I am looking for any records about a Jewish family who moved from London to Australia about 1883. The father was called Samuel Hyams b 1850 and mother Amelia . They had 10 children including Abigail b 1880 and Miriam (who I believe was really Maria) b 1882 born in London. The 5 children after that I believe were born in Australia . Is anyone researching the family or any advice on records to look at?  Abigail and Miriam married two brothers called Freedman . How can I find the ship they travelled to Australia in?

Many thanks

bellou  :) :)

Best place to start is with the reources section at the very top of the Australian Board.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/board,399.0.html

In there you will find links to most of what you are after starting with the Victorian Resources.
I am sure you will find it informative and interesting. ;D
If you get stuck just refer back to this post.
The Vic BDM should give you all the details including any marriages, it is a pay per view site however. >:(

Can see Simeon's marriage to Annie A Allsop in 1909  in Perth here http://www.wamarriage.info/

I think the 19 year old son of Simeon and Annie mentioned in divorce case in 1930 is Barnett Hyams born 1909 here

Hello bellou,
Do you know much about the family before they went to Australia?
My gg grandfather, born Gibralter c1810, Joseph/Judah/Judas or Judaj POSWILLO married a Rebecca HYAMS, c1810/13, and haven't been able to find out anything more about either side of the family before they appear on the 1841 census in Barking so if there is a possibility  Rebecca was related to your family any information would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
HeatherR

I am looking for the children of Wallace, Rae, Bernard David and Joseph Freedman.  I believe the names I have listed are children of Phineas (born 1872 and a photo frame mfg) and Lucy Freedman.  Phineas and Lucy also had twins Simeon and Frank, but I have their children names.

Can anyone help me?
