I know this is a long shot but would anyone know of a T.J. Jones born in the county of Merionethshire, Wales and emigrated to Australia in 1884. He was known by his bardic name as Namorydd and is living in his seventies in Cardiff, New South Wales in the early 1930ies. He is part of a project I am researching about quarryman poets and was highly regarded.
I would be grateful for any help regarding death/gravestone/family etc.
-
Without guessing; what does T J stand for and his parents names, would help?
Neil
-
Yes, I realize, but probably Thomas John Jones.
-
He emigrated with a friend Rees Thomas Jones from a newspaper article in 1884. His whereabouts on the Welsh censuses are difficult to find (and therefore his family.) If he married it would be in Australia.
-
There are 5 marriages in the Newcastle region for Thomas J's from 1880-1930?

He was living in the Abergynolwyn area before emigrating (see last line of a poem about his departure). The poem may also give some clues as to his standing in the community which he was leaving. and also the English article http://welshnewspapers.llgc.org.uk/en/page/view/3156265/ART62/namorydd

More info on his parents and siblings in another of his father's obituaries http://welshnewspapers.llgc.org.uk/en/page/view/3159971/ART30/namorydd

It appears they had more than one child.

Thanks for that. The digitized newspaper accounts are excellent & I can use that as reference. There is also an address so I can tie him down at that time in Oz. Many thanks all.
-
Oh, his father's Obituary is interesting, I hadn't seen that. He was indeed from the Aberglaslyn area but moved to Abergynolwyn before emigrating. Fantastic response from all, very many thanks.

Thomas was my Great Grandfather. Im happy to try an assist with information. My mother (Jones) would be over the move if you have information about his writing. I do know that he was awarded a medal ad carved wooden chair at the victoria theatre in Newcastle NSW Australia in about 1880 or 1890.

The Welsh language newspaper "Y Goleuad", 21 Jun 1899, carries a report entitled

The Welsh language newspaper "Y Genedl Gymreig, 9 Nov 1887" has an article about a meeting/service in Junction Welsh Chapel, Newcastle to honour his leaving for a place called Tamworth, to take up a post associated with The Citizen's Life Assurance. He had been in that part of the world about 3 years.

The "Goleuad" has Lena as the daughter of "... Mr & Mrs Williams, Stockton ...".
However, the "Baner ac Amserau Cymru, 17 Jun 1899" has "... Mr & Mrs William Lund, Stockton..."
-
My research proved the first newspaper report was wrong.

Hi Cando. I have just registered here, and I would like to add to your conversation. My Great Grand Father was Namorydd. My mother only told me about his great poetry skills, once I started writing poems for my first wife many years ago. I had no idea that poetry was part of my heritage. I have written a lot of poetry over the years for my current wife, my previous wife and children. When I remarried 7 years ago to a beautiful Danish lady, my mother told me that my Great Grand Father had been married to a Lena Lund. This is where is becomes a little spooky. My wife' sister's name is Lena Lotte Larsen.
