I have several relatives who lived and died in Conwy/Devanwy. I am trying to find where they are buried but so far no luck. I would guess that they were buried locally. Any help or advice on finding them would be most appreciated.
Gertrude Maskell 1866-1943
Mary Ellen Maskell 1880-1953
Matthew Maskell 1877-1943
Ada Sellars 1871-1956
As they were all siblings, they may be in the same grave.
Thanks

Mary Ellen Maskell 1880-1953
Can't see a death for that name in 1953 in Wales. One in Hackney b 1883 but just Mary
Ada Sellars 1871-1956
Death registered North East Cheshire
http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/north%20east%20cheshire.html
The other 2 deaths were registered in Conway but where were they living at the time of their deaths?
These are all the areas in the Conway RD

Hi
I also cannot find a death entry but Mary died at Llandudno General Hospital 13 Dec 1953 - she lived with her sister Gertrude in Devanwy and continued to live at Maelor until her death in 1953
Gertrude died at Maelor Ty Mawr Road, Devanwy 7 Feb 1943
Matthew died ay Llys Llewelyn, Conway 5 Jan 1943
Ada was the sister of the above and although she died in Marple, Cheshire, she is not buried with her husband who she survived by 45 years. Since she was close to her sisters, she may have been buried with them.
Thanks

Does Mary's death cert show her as Maskell?
The only birth reg around 1879-1881 was in Chorlton Lancs 1880 - is that her?
Did she never marry?

The most likely place for a person from Deganwy who died in the 1950's to be buried would be Llanrhos Cemetery.
Gwynedd Family History society does have a transcription booklet of the cemetery, unfortunately I don't have a copy of the publication in order to confirm that your people are there.
Contact details for the cemetery management can be found on Conwy County Borough Council's website:

Hi
There were four daughters and a son born to Matthew Maskell (1842) a boot maker in Manchester
Gertrude, May, and Matthew never married and moved to live in Conway in the 1900's.
Ada Maskell married Fred Sellars and settled in Marple, Cheshire.
The other sister Eliza Maskell married Albert Evans, a butcher in Gorton. They also moved to Conway but were buried in the Evans family grave in Gorton.
Mary was the youngest and remained a spinster seemingly living on the proceeds of her siblings' wills, leaving over £18 to the surviving sons of Ada.

Mary seems to have been a very wealthy woman - she left £13,768 10s 7d

The story goes that the Maskells moved from Ireland to Manchester and were bootmakers. My family, the Nugents were also bootmakers in Stoney Middleton, Derbyshire and who owner property in Hyde Rioad Gorton, Manchester where the Maskells lived. Gertrude was set to marry her cousin John Nugent (my great uncle) but he died suddenly in 1908 leaving the interest on the Gorton properties to Gertrude for her lifetime.
Gertrude is listed as "cousin" to the Stoney Nugents in the 1911 census and I have been trying to find this link for years. The link may be through Clare in Ireland from where Matthew Maskell (smr) and the Nugents originate but so far I keep hitting brickwalls.

Have a look at this death reg - GRO index shows Mary and so does freebmd
May Maskell aged 67 December qtr 1953 Conway 8a 143

This is the lass. Mary and May are clearly the same person. The DR fits Mary as dying in 1953 although her age is out. Several members of the family were creative when giving their ages. No doubt Mary was no different in this respect.

May I be cheeky and ask for any details of another Conwy burial, that of Robert David Roberts . b 27 Jul 1906 Mold, Flintshire and buried during the Mar Q 1973 Conwy Caenarvonshire.
No, at this stage I have not sent for his death record Vol 8a page 709.
I am anticipating that his mother was Emily Rees, formerly of Bangor, and father Thomas Roberts of Mold, Flintshire.

May Maskell was born 21 June 1880 and was a householder, living with her was her brother Mathew Maskell born 15th August 1877 a retired Estate Agent and the address was Llys Llewelyn, Mount Pleasant, Conway. When the holiday is over and Conwy Library opens again I will go and look in the records for you to see if the family are buried at St Agnes Cemetery in Conwy, if not then I will try Llanrhos records.
I will have a look for Robert David Roberts too and let you know if I have any luck.
Kind Regards ,
Ellen
