Title: how to contact a forum member
Post by: monsy on Sunday 07 July 13 01:11 BST (UK)
Hi. Im new here and I joined because I saw a member had a question about a family in Corratanty, Co.Monaghan which I think I can help with. But I see that I need 3 posts before I can pm them. Is there any other way of contacting them without having to make another 2 posts? Thanks

No, there isn't.  So answer me a couple of times and then you'll be all set.

You can also do a search for their post, and then reply to it! ;D

Hi and Welcome  :)

I assume that you want to contact jml77:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,539483.0.html

On the thread, he says that he would keep monitoring it

Quote
I will keep monitoring this thread in the hopes that people researching similar surnames or with other ideas re: avenues of research have information to share.  I have tried hunting through the Irish Family History Foundation site for church records but have not not had any success so far.

So I suggest that you do what KGarrad suggests and reply on that thread - if the info is confidential, just say something like 'I have info on Corratanty' a couple of times and then you will be able to exchange info.

Regards

Gadget

Thanks guys. Yes, it is jml77 and no, not particularly private as information relates to records I was looking at in the Valuation Office in Dublin. So I 'll reply and also generate another post as I believe my grandfather lived in Glasgow for a couple of years and possibly someone can help with that.  ;)

If it's not private family info then it's a good idea to reply on the boards ,you never know if that info will help someone else in the future  ;D

I am a newbie and would like to contact a forum member, but I understand I need to post 3x's, so this is my first. I am very grateful to find this site.

Welcome to Rootschat.

That should work and you should now be able to use the personal messaging system.

Actually, not sure that will work?
Posts have to be on boards that count - Totally Off Topic for example does not count ::)

Unless the Rootschat member has this setting . . . . .
[ Email notifications in Profile / Account Settings / Modify Profile ]

Current Topic Email Notifications (https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=120331;area=notification;sort=subject)

"You are not currently receiving any email notifications from topics."

If set then the member does not get any emails from Rootschat.

...and then hope the email address they used is still valid!

Ok understand what you are saying but this is how to use rootschat.  Is that also one that doesn't count towards a total post count?

shows Zero posts simply because they don't count on this Section.

I believe the rules changed a little while ago, so posts on this board are no longer counted.

Jessika, your post count is still 0, and you will need to join in on an existing thread.  Or you could start one of your own; most people do that on the Beginners board until they find their way around.

Just say if you need any help with that, and in the meantime, welcome to RootsChat :)

The little green scroll under Jessika's name has lit up and she CAN send personal massages though.

.................... she CAN send personal massages though.

I'm not sure she'd want to do that :o

I've just sent her a 'test' massage.  Let's see what happens ................................

Hi all,
Thanks for all your help. Little bit confused on how to use this site. Just came across some info relevant to me today on a very old thread and was trying to directly message that certain person when I came across this thread. Still seems I am unable to send messages however. Carol, I can see your message... but can't seem to reply. Might have a bit more of a play to see if I can get the hang of things.  :)

Easiest way to make contact is to reply on the thread you found.

IF they are still interested, and monitoring posts, they will respond.

If not, then your message may be of interest to other members.

The 3 post rule, for Personal Messages, is to discourage spammers?
Otherwise we'd all be flooded with offers of Nike, Raybans, etc. ;D ;D ;D

Hi, I’ve just found a discussion on my Grandfather, information I’ve searched for for years, Fredrick George Coles and his mother Ellen Coles, Westley. How do I reply to the posts?  I can’t believe the information I’ve found on here. Tessa Spencer. Rosie99. Wivenhoe. Thank you.
