Request from Australia. Trying to find baptismal details for Ernest CARTER b.1829 son of Henry CARTER a surgeon/dentist & Priscilla (nee CLART). I found Henry CARTER's name listed in Pigot's 1830 Directory (on-line) with reference to page 688. I would be most appreciative for any further information found on that page.

Hi
The HENRY CARTER found on page 688 of the 1830's pigot's directory is a jeweller/ silversmith working from 4 St James Parade, BATH.
Can't find a baptism for Ernest either, or any of his siblings.

I'm now wondering if Henry CARTER was indeed a jeweller/silversmith before he called himself a dentist (1841/1851 London Census). Apparently there were no exams until the 1850s and even then not compulsory. Sons, Ernest & Henry jnr both migrated to Oz and practised as successful Dentists here. Would be good to locate Ernest CARTERs baptismal record sometimes quoted as birth in Bath & sometimes Cheltenham. The date should be 1829. The subsequent children to Ernest all appear to be born in Cheltenham (though no b. details found yet). Is it possible to track down the dates Henry CARTER was working in Bath as a jeweller through the directories?

Hi, did Ernest marry Harriet?
If you google his name there's a site with Ernest being born in 1829 Cheltenham, son of Henry a London dentist.
Married Harriet and they went to Aus in 1852. They had 14 children.

That's the very property we are researching. HOWEVER there are various documents which state either BATH or CHELTENHAM as ERNEST's birth place. We would like to be accurate and establish exactly where he was either born and/or baptised! The family may well have moved between the two locations & therefore he may have been born in BATH & baptised in CHELTENHAM. ERNEST & HARRIET were not active in the embryonic C of E near where they built and are buried in the Independant Section of the cemetery. However, all the babies who died are buried in the CE section and surviving children all married in the CE (all denominations have equal standing). Despite having 14 children, there were many early deaths and other tragedies through the generations, which is why we have not been successful finding early details or photos and are now trying to trace lateral family in the UK.
