Anyone have any info on my family, New Luce & Stranraer?
-
Welcome to rootschat Stoddie.
You will need to give us more information before anyone can attempt to help you. Can you at least tell us any or all of the following:
names (if deceased)
dates and places of birth (if deceased)
... and tell us what you already know about them and what you hope to find out.
-
I think this is another thread about the Fenions
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,619062.msg4682105.html#msg4682105
Is it Peter or do you want to go back further, Stoddie?

Thank you for all the info you have given me, some of it I had but a couple of bits are new to me. I know Elizabeth married again but can find nothing of her in the next census

Hi Stoddie
I found a bit more info - maybe you have it, maybe you don't!
Eliz/sabeth's father was a Hugh Blackwell and mother was Mary McLure:
1851
Village, New Luce
Hugh Blackwell, 43, blacksmith, b. Old Luce
Mary, wife, 41, b. Girvan, Ayrshire
Elisabeth, d, 11, b. New Luce
Jane, d, 8, b. do
Robert, s, 3, b. do
Robert McLure, father in law, 77, resident, b. Ballantrae, Ayrshire
1871
New Luce
Elisabeth Blackwell, unm, 30, Grocer, b. New Luce
Jane, sister, 28, dressmaker, b. do
Peter, snr, seems to have been the father to both sisters's children:
New Luce
22 Feb 1873, Robert Fenion,(Illegit) Father - Peter Fenion, labourer Mother - Jane Blackwell, dressmaker (deceased). Informants - Elisabeth Blackwell, aunt and Peter Fenion, father
18th June 1873, Jane Fenion, Father - Peter Fenion, ag labourer Mother - Elisabeth M.S Blackwell. Married - 20th May 1873, New Luce
After Peter's death in 1875, Elisabeth seems to have married an Alexander Donald in 1877, New Luce. I don't see them after this in the UK.
Have you found Peter (b. 1875) on the 1881?

I think that I've found Alexander Donald in 1871. It might help to locate them in 1881. He was a Railway labourer in 1877, aged 32.
1871
RG10/5271/101/7
Crosby Garrett, Westmorland
John Symon, 41, stone mason, b. Scotland, Aberdeen
......
Alex M Donald, lodger, unm, 25, railway labourer, b. Scotland, Inverness-shire

This news is fantastic , I kinda know all Peters life after his father died, he died in 1924 which is the plot I have been looking for, as for his mum Elizabeth I just could not find her, I also have no idea where his sister Jane and brother Robert went. If you don't mind saying where are you seeing these as I have been looking for a long time. Thank you so much for your help
-
It's a mixture of info - censuses, Family Search and, if all else fails, Scotland's People.
I'm sure I saw possibles for Robert and Jane - will check back later.
Would you like me to go back to Peter snr's parents, Daniel and Agnes.and Elisabeth's parents, Hugh and Mary, or do you have info on them?

I do have info on Peters family but not a lot on Elisabeths, can't believe you may have seen something on Robert, Jane. Daniel and Agnes came from Ireland, Have their births deaths, but can't get back any further Thank you again

The Blackwell/Maclure family in 1841
New Luce Village
Robert Maclure, 68, HLW (hand loom weaver)
Hugh Blackwell, 35, blacksmith
Mary do, 32
Elisabeth do, 1
Hugh and Elisabeth down as b. Wigtownshire and Robert and Mary as b Scotland (Ayrshire from the later info)
Hugh and Mary married New Luce, 30 June 1838
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY7L-HXH
The following children are listed on Family Search for Hugh and Mary in New Luce:
21 July 1839 Elisabeth
26 April 1847 Robert
1 April 1842 Jane
This could be Hugh's Baptism:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/XY9S-VMK
Parents - David Blackwell and Elizabeth Torbron/Thorborn
David and Elizabeth married in Inch 15 Jan 1796
Children of David Blackwell and Elizabeth Torbron/Thorborn in Old Luce (from Family Search):
18 Nov 1802 Elizabeth
6 March 1806 Hugh
18 May 18091809 James
A probable son, John, bpt 26 Mar 1797, Inch but only father's name is shown.
-
This might be David and Elisabeth Blackwell in 1841 with son James and his wife and child:
Balmesh, Old Luce
David Blackwell, 70, farmer, b. Ireland
Elisabeth, 70
James, 25
Margt, 25
Elisabeth, 1
Agnes Rainey, 15, Female Servant
All but David born Wigtownshire
Note that ages were often rounded down into 5 year age bands in the 1841 - so 70 could be anything between 70 and 74, 25 anything between 25 and 29.

My goodness thanks once again I'm just about dancing round the room, it's been a long time since I had some good news. Can I ask, the Robert and Jane I can't find are Peter and Elisabeths and(Janes) children, when he died she was left with three little ones, she married Alex and if she died in 1878 he would be left with the little ones, I know Peter made his way back to New Luce but nothing on the older two

I'm having problems identifying Robet and Jane, Stoddie. The ones that I thought were them turned out to be (maybe) cousins after lots of checks, etc. I don't see deaths for them either. I'm now wondering if they might have been fostered/adopted. It's all very difficult as there were no official adoptions in those days.
I've tried doing large global searches on those born New Luce 1872-78 but cant't identify them so far :-\
I'll try some more searches and get in touch if I find anything worthwhile.
