Post by: AshWalls102 on Monday 29 July 13 02:54 BST (UK)
Hello I am very new to this site and I have been speaking with my Aunt and I just found out that My family is Irish and our Name has a coat of arms and they were from Kilarney, Ireland.  I guess what I am doing is I am asking if anyone has any information on this topic at all.  I am very interested to know about my heritage.
Thank you.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Can I put you right here?
There is no such thing as a coat-of-arms for a surname! :o
Coats-of-Arms are awarded to a named individual, and his descendants have the right to use the arms.

To be able to use the arms, you have to prove that your ancestor had the rights to them.
In fact, under Scottish Law, it is illegal to use arms to which you are not entitled! ;D

The arms I use as my avatar (left) were used by a John Garrad, whose line became extinct.
I only use the shield, and not the complete coat-of-arms.
