I am looking for David h Armitage who emigrated from Scotland in 1923. I have found him on 1930 census not on 1940. In 1943 I found him registersting Draft Form living in Brooklyn Kings New York. Would like to find anything about him after that.
-
Hi,
Welcome to Rootschat
Presume this is the David with a birth date of 17 December 1882. Not finding a SSDI (Social security Death Index) record for him. The SSDI was up and running by about 1962 so it could mean David died before that date or returned to Scotland maybe ???
According to manifest markings on the passenger list in 1923 David was naturalized 10/9/1941 - 2-921777
Going to visit a nephew Mr William Deatcher. c/o McBride 5343 Pine Street Philadelphia.
Nothing so far after the WW2 Draft at the 4502 3 rd Ave Brooklyn NY address ??? Still looking.

Hi thanks very much for your quick reply. I'll look into his nephew to find who he is. What I'm curious about is when he signed his draft card a Mary Hepburn used the same address in 1942. In 1940 she is a widow with 6 children the third youngest is named David in 1940 he is 3yrs old then one 2yrs and one 1yr. Do you know how I could find the date of her husband Peter Hepburns death Just curious. Thanks for your help J

Wonder if Shelly might find an obituary for David Armitage in the 11209 Brooklyn Zip Code Area about 1960 ?
It seems that the children born after 1935 called Hepburn on the 1940 census were the children of David Armitage and changed to that surname at some stage.
The "genforum" link above also named some born after 1940
Sandra
-
I don't know of any online sources for obituaries in that area & time frame other than the New York Times, and I don't see him in there.
-
OK Shelly, it was worth a shot - just feel there is more to find on the Armitage family, although obviously can't name because they appear to be still living in New York - possibly Staten island for a couple of them.

Hi Sandra tried to mail you but box was full. The two brothers James and William appear to have died on the same day is there a way to find a death cert to see if they are related or is it posible to find from the cemetery . Thanks Jean
-
Hi Jean,
No idea what the problem is with the pm box saying full - messages are coming through okay.
Have queried this but not got an answer as yet.
Didn't get any further with the James and William Hepburn death dates being the same unfortunately. Must have been some sort of accident ???

Thanks for all your help I am still sorting through it all. I believe the first Peter Hepburn we found who you said died in 1937 is Mary's original husband. I recently found a cousin in Scotland and will ring her to morrow let her know the new things I have learnt. David our Granddad left a few years after his wife died my dad joined the RAF and never went back he died from an accident when I was twelve so I knew very little of his family thanks a lot.

Iam the great great grandson of Peter Hepburn and Mary Parker. Their daughter Bridget Hepburn is my grandfather Archibald McAllister's mother
