Title: Nurse - help dating and identifying uniform
Post by: Maxima on Wednesday 07 August 13 11:28 BST (UK)
Hi. We are trying to work out which family member this is. We would like to know if it's possible to work out the date, and if anything can be identified from the nurses uniform she is wearing.

Many thanks, Ann

I don't have the photo at hand at the moment, but it has an embossed stamp on the front with the photographers address - 96 Barking Road, East Ham.

I am almost certain she is a St. Johns V.A.D. nurse.

Thank you for the link, very interesting. I wonder why she was wearing the armband on the opposite arm.

Yes, it does indeed. I take it the photographer printed it reversed? I've found an entry of a medal card for a Eliza Smith -  Voluntary Aid Detachment Corps on the National Archives site. This matches one of the two people we thought it may be.
