Title: buxtons and smiths in heanor
Post by: jasonh on Tuesday 13 August 13 21:34 BST (UK)
i have my family tree and have been succesful in goin quite far back but im struugling to fit a family member into my tree, my family tree is the buxtons from loscoe/codnor. my great great grandfarther fred h buxton was 1 of 13 siblings. i have manged to track most of them obviosly the males with more ease.my issue is i know there is a connie smith in my buxton family tree. i know she was connie smith in 1943 but do not know if she was connie smith due to a marriage, hense my problem, not knowing if im looking for a birth of connie smith or connie buxton. i dont know d.o.b but know she gave birth in 1943 so that has givin me a little bit of a time window. i know she was or became a nurse(dont know if that can help me in anyway) and i know she had a sister(dont know about any other siblings). any information on fitting connie smith into my family tree would be much appreciated as im starting to clutch at straws, the buxton name is very popular in heanor and smith...... we all know how hard smiths are to track lol

You probably have this -so apologies if I am repeating things - but it may help others to join in the search

Fred Henry Buxton married Sarah Ann Smith

they had at least 4 children
Freda Annie Buxton
birth reg Mar qtr 1903 Basford 7b 224

I wonder if Freda Annie & Cyril E Smith had a daughter and named her Constance/Connie after freda's sister

After you have made 3 posts you can use the PM facility

If you could PM me the name of the child b 1943 to Connie Smith that would help - or if you have the birth reg and the child was named Smith the mother's maiden name should be shown -that would help

(well in most cases after a certain date in my tree it has basford down as the local registry office)

It is not necessarily Basford register office which would be used
Basford is a registration district which covered quite a large area -parts of Nottinghamshire and parts of Derbyshire

BMD's in Codnor/Heanor came within Basford Registration district - but within the subdistrict of Ilkeston

More recently Ilkeston has become a reg district in its own right - and  Amber Valley  too.

thanks for the replys  :). constance buxton is my great nana but is not the family member i am looking for,it is a cousin i think of hers, within the buxton family it seem alot of the names were reused and many children named after aunties and uncles. i have looked into freda and cyril smith but it is not them, they just had 1 daughter a sheila hazel smith. although the connie smith i am looking for is smith, she is definately a buxton family member. the child she had in 1943 was a judith p smith and it does state that mothers maiden name was buxton on the birth records, but i dont get how she fits into my tree, any connie buxton ive checked ,ive cross refrenced the maiden name of the mother and cannot find a marriage to a buxton with it.one connie buxton i fount had mothers maiden name beardsley and there was no marriage betwen a beardsley and buxton

Great, I too had looked at the marriage to raymond r smith with a strong possibilty, the beardsley marriage is a big break through aswel the only downfall is in the 1881 census u showed me it says john buxtons father was nathan buxton and I am struggling to find a nathan buxton in my tree. In the census with john and mary ann buxton is that the 1901 census or 1911??? Thanks

It is the 1901 census -we are not allowed to post 1911 census -copyright issues- but the index can be searched freely
