Title: Marriage of John LANE & Ellen MADIGAN 1870, Walton, St Mary, Liverpool
Post by: gazania on Wednesday 14 August 13 04:02 BST (UK)
I have a strong suspicion that my elusive gggrandfather, John Lane, has married for the third time.  I have found references to this marriage on the GRO (twice indexed), LancBMD & Family search.  However I am unable to find the actual church marriage online (eg LANOPC).  Before I buy the certificate, I am wondering if anyone has easy access to the church record:

John Lane marries Ellen Madigan, 6 July 1870, Walton-on-the-Hill, St Mary, Liverpool.

I have followed this family through the 1871, 1881,1891 censuses until John's death aged 87, Dec qtr 1891.  See my previous requests:

Thank you both for your interest.  I have followed this family through to Seaforth and the facts remain consistent.  Birthplace Cork, age b 1804-1809, occ gardener, nurseryman, scripture reader. father's name is William.  Moves from Cork to Askeaton, LIM about 1840 then to Liverpool 1850s.

Family structure:
1married Catherine Maloney, Cork where he married & had at least 3 kids:
children: William b 1829, scripture reader moves to Liverpool, he marries Annie Stockford 1858
James b 1832, nurseryman,(bible says left Askeaton 1849) Bristol to OZ - my line
              U/k missionary in India

2 married Honora nee Sheahan nee Madigan, 1850, Askeaton LIM
children:  Francis b 1853 Liverpool, married Margaret Ledder, girl nextdoor, adopted dau of Mcreiths
              George dec

???3 married Ellen Madigan (bLimerick) 1870 Liverpool moves Seaforth
children: Daniel plus 2 deceased

I hope this is clear.  Thank you again for your interest.  I now think it is time to apply for the marriage cert for third marriage even if to eliminate.  Gazania

Thank you for the second marriage.  I found this photo of  a Mr & Mrs Lane where they lived at the same address, Granville Rd., for years at Seaforth.  2nd row RHS.  The other photos of the community are great too.

I'll post the information from the marriage cert when it arrives.  Gazania

I wish to thank rootschatters who helped with this search/post.  Just to let you know -  I have received the death cert for Honora/Hannah, remarriage cert of John to Ellen Madigan and the  birth cert of Louisa, the latter couple's first child, born a month after their marriage!  All documents confirm that the same John Lane b Cork about 1804+, married 3 times, was a gardener, nurseryman & Scripture Reader.  I am now 95% sure he is my gggrandfather.  At age 83, he assaulted his wife, Ellen, which was reported in the Liverpool Mercury.  He was discharged as she wanted him back.

Thank you for your help.  Gazania

Hi
I've been researching my family history and by chance found your post and I'm so glad to have found you.
John Lane was also my gg grandfather. My grandmother is Ellen Lane, daughter of Daniel Lane and his first wife Sarah Ann Calcutt and granddaughter of John Lane. That photo of Mr and Mrs Lane on the doorstep holding the dog is Daniel Lane with his second wife Ellen, who I used to call Granny Ellen. I only vaguely remember Grandad Lane but Granny Ellen was a scary woman!
I'm pretty much a onvice at family research and have kind of been stumped once I found that John, Daniel Lane's father, was from Ireland.
I'd be so happy if we could share information. I can tell you about what I know.
Also, my uncle, son of Ellen Lane lives in Australia! Emigrated to Brisbane as a £10 Pom. Has retired now and lives down in Tweed Heads. I visit my extended Aussie family often, how wonderful to find another branch of the tree :-)

Hi Junie,
Brilliant Brilliant.  I am so overcome that we have made contact that I can barely write something.  I have been researching my Lane family for 30 years and only a few years ago, when I posted here that I had made any headway.  And I have made even more advances since 2013 when I posted this thread.

Also I know Tweed Heads very well, in fact my grand father, another John Lane, and his family are buried in the local cemetery.  The family lived in nearby Coolangatta.  I shall gather my stuff together so that we can piece this family together.  It is bedtime now, not that I will sleep much now, but I shall contact you tomorrow.

Oh, and forgot to mention, I'm coming over to visit again in Nov :-) Yeh, I know Coolangatta well. Love Rainbow Bay  :D

I had hit a brick wall with my trying to find out about John Lane and thought I was going to have to pop over to Cork to the records office and see if I could find out information. Anything you can share with me will be very much appreciated.
