Title: Old Maps of Cambridge, e.g. Baker 1830
Post by: JustinL on Tuesday 14 June 05 12:25 BST (UK)
Would anyone happen to have an old map of Cambridge covering Barnwell?

I found this map of the Kite from 1836 on the website of the Eden Baptist Chapel, which is probably where my ancestors worshipped. But, I cannot quite make out if Wellington Row is in the top right and Paradise Row on the south side of the Garden of Eden.

Rgds,

Justin

This is a long time after your original posting but will reply in case you still need the information.

Wellington Row is at the top right running between Burleigh Row and Sun Street.

The road on the south side of the Garden of Eden is Prospect Row. with Adam and Eve Row on the east.

Paradise Street is not on the 1830 map.
It is on the site of the Garden of Eden after it was developed.  The next one down from Burleigh Street, off of Adam and Eve Row.

The area has changed a lot and so have some of the names.

Let me know if I can help further, I have Baker's 1830 map and also 1886 maps of Cambridge.

Yep, as you say Selina,

Wellington Row is in fact at the top right and names have changed and it looks like Wellington Row
became Wellington Street. Along which there was a small church called St Johns.
