All the records for Stane are held by North Lanarkshire Council, you can find the Cemeteries Office phone number on the council website.

Here is a list of the information held by NLC.

Shotts Churchyard, Shotts.  (Possibly Kirk O’ Shotts)
Day Book 1861 – 1871.

Calderhead Churchyard, Shotts.
1 Day Book 1876 – 1924.

Thank you Lodger, will digest all that and sort out the search.I noted the "Kirk O Shotts" surely this would not be RC.My lot all are,so could I eliminate this site? By the way,a phone call would be a little expensive.I'm in NZ. Thank you again for posting

Don't rule out Kirk o' Shotts, it was the original parish burial ground but also has a cemetery extension. Anyone who was resident within the parish, no matter what their religion, was entitled to be buried in the parish churchyard.

Why don't you post some family names (and maiden surnames) just in case someone on this List has information to share. I have some 19th century burial records for Cambusnethan parish, the next parish to Shotts. Many Shotts folk are buried there.

I would have to go through all of my ancestors to verify who lies where. But at the moment I'm looking for Duffy and McGovern from 1870? I think...   John, William, James, Joseph etc.  McGoverns'; Patrick, William, another Patrick, Edward. The same years .

Irishseeker,

Maiden surnames would really have helped narrow down specific families. However, what I did manage to find was quite a few burial records in among the Cambusnethan Cemetery records that appear to be entries for Stane Cemetery. Looking at my original post in August last year, you will see that North Lanarkshire Council only hold 1 Day Book for Stane and that is for Public Ground, in other words, paupers burials. The Council also hold Lair Owners Books and Section Books but no other Day Books. These were more or less diaries of burials each day as they were carried out. It looks as though the gravediggers from Cambusnethan looked after Stane too and used the Cambusnethan Day Books to cover both.
All of the following entries (apart from the first one) have "STANE" in the margin before the name of the deceased, so I am assuming that they are all buried at Stane.
This first entry is definitely for Cambusnethan cemetery, it was a burial in Common Ground.
All dates are of burial.

JAMES DUFFY, coal miner, Omoa Poorhouse, aged 51 years, married.
Parents - James Duffy & Bridget McGullan.
Common Ground on 30th April 1913.

(Omoa Poorhouse was, by 1913, the Combination Poorhouse for Shotts and Cambusnethan parishes).

All of the following are, I am convinced, in Stane Cemetery. (In no particular order).

PATRICK DUFFY, Shotts, (abode). Aged 5 years.
Parents - John Duffy & Margaret Ginglay.
Interred in plot A302, 29th July 1908.
Plot owner - John Duffy, coal miner, 6 Jordan Terrace, Shotts.

ELLEN ELIZABETH McELWEE, 175 Stane Place, Stane, aged 6 months.
Parents - Charles McElwee & Alice duffy.
Plot B277 on 11th March 1910.

MARY McELWEE, 175 Stane Place, Stane, aged 13 years.
Parents - Charles McElwee & Alice Duffy.
Plot B277 on 16th June 1910.

STILLBORN MALE CHILD DUFFY, Stane.
Parents - Joseph Duffy & Lizze Doyle.
Interred in Public Ground on 28th March 1912.

STILLBORN MALE CHILD DUFFY, Stane.
Parents - Hugh Duffy & Alice Cassidy.
Plot A320 on 7th June 1915.
Plot owned by Hugh Duffy, coal miner, 43 Springhill Buildings, Stane.

MARGARET DUFFY, 70 Stane Place, Stane. Aged 6 months.
Parents - John Duffy & Margaret Carroll.
Plot A303 on 4th September 1916.

JOHN MULDOWNIE, 8 Jordan Terrace Shotts, aged 5 years & 11 months.
Parents - Thomas Muldownie & Elizabeth Duffy.
Plot A303 on 2nd June 1908.
Plot owner - Thomas Muldownie, coal miner, 8 Jordan Terrace.

CATHERINE McBIRNIE, housewife, 71 Stane Place, Stane. Aged 52 years, married.
Father - Patrick McGovern. (no mother's name given).
Plot A254 on 20th July 1910.

MICHAEL CONNELL, coal miner, Stane. Aged 58 years, married.
Parents - James Connell & Marie Muldownie.
Plot B370 on 25th August 1915.
Plot owned by Elizabeth McGovern or Connell, 123 Stane Place, Stane. (probably his widow).

Hope this helps you a little.

Lodger, I must apologise for not seeing your reply until now. My head went on a trip by itself for a while, came back recently. Thanks for all that information. Now I am asking all, if there is an album of photos of Stane cemetery. I have just paid to purchase a pic of my great Uncle's headstone, but can not make anything out on it due to the branches in front of the stone. It is the Headstone of Edward Heaney died 1968, and it is important to me as he fought in WW1 as did so many of my extended family. As did all families suffer. I really would appreciate a clear pic of it. In hope, my reconnected body signs off, and awaits in anticipation. :-*

I am reasonably close to Stane and need to visit the cemetery. While there I could look for graves of your family but would need lair numbers and names. Can you give me any details which would help in the search. Pictures can be taken and could be emailed to you.

I've recently been digging into the past for my surname Somerville.
I'm heading to Kirk o'Shotts today to look for a headstone that has Thomas Somerville d 1828 I believe this is the same relative that was born 1775 or 1776 this is as far back as I've got on the Somerville side and now searching to see if I can find the parents of Thomas.
