Is there any significance in the symbols on this bracelet?
Each one is similar but with variations, so they are not random squiggles.
The clasp is marked 925 silver, indicating British Sterling.

Looks like "niello", Thai dancers?
Skoosh.

Hi Bob, this is probably "out of the left field" but,...... Is it English? I know it has the "925" mark but it looks like Lizards/crocodiles, and they seem to be walking around the bracelet, maybe a bit Aboriginal. :-\
( I did say it was out of the left field ).
Regards,
Frank.

That's a possibility.

In fact.......after enlarging and turning the picture it makes my suggestion look completely mad.

I can see hints of Hindu symbolism, which might suggest british india

Initially I thought I saw dragons or insects but now I think Scoosh might be right.

This site says there should be the word 'Siam' written somewhere.

Is this similar?
-
It is almost certainly Thai. The black is Niello, a sort of enamel used on a lot of Thai silver.
-
You beat me to it Maggie.

Sorry YT ;D ;D ;D
-
perhaps I should have said Budddhist symbolism ;D ;D ;D
I am looking at a very similar piece stamped made in british india, but I think Maggie and YT are closer to the mark

It could be the Garuda, although the etching is not that good and being so small.

Many thanks to all for a fast response.
We now know where globe-trotting great aunt went.
And Maggie, I could not read the words on the clasp under ‘925 silver’, but I can now decipher it as Made in Siam.
I see that the name was changed from Siam to Thailand in 1939. Does this mean that the bracelet was made before 1940 or was the name Siam retained for art work?
Bob.

Glad you got it sorted Bob. This site here gives some history on the contentious issue of the name change, which does not sound to have been straightforward, the US and UK didnt recognise the name until 1948. Not sure it helps with the dating of the bracelet though.

I recognised this straight away as "Siamese Silver"...very popular in the late 1960s...I had a ring with a similar design.
Scroll down to view...this is dated 1950s
